I know this topic has been addressed in other threads, but I'm looking for a some basic suggestions.

I currently use Blue Iris to manage six IP cameras. These cameras range from old Android phones being used as cameras to mid-level Axis professional cameras. I may eventually increase to eight total cameras. This surveillance system is based in my home.

Right now, I use an old dedicated laptop computer to run Blue Iris (Dell Studio, Intel Core Duo, T6400 @ 2.00 GHz). It's worked fine until I added my last camera. Now it's almost always near 100% CPU.

From my research here, the recommendations to run Blue Iris are an i7 processor and 8 GB RAM. Most machines with the i7 seem to start at $600 and go way up.

Does anyone have specific suggestions (i.e. a computer for sale now) that would handle my cameras nicely but not cost $600 without a monitor?

Thanks for any help.

I just saw an ad for a refurbished HP Z400 with an Intel Xeon Quad Core W3565 3.2Ghz and 8 GB Ram. It has Windows 7. Cost is $339. Would this work?

Thanks.

Do not buy that old server. A 300 dollar i5 haswell system is faster and WAY more power efficient, those are power hogs..Search the forum for dell optiplex and hp elitedesk and you will find threads about the. i5-4590 full 3year next business day warrantied systems for 300..i7 for about 5...

Fenderman, thanks for the help. Unfortunately, I can't find an optimax I5 for less than $500 at the Dell Outlet and the I7 machines start at $700. The HP Elitedesk 800 4590 is $550. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA8H53HC9852&cm_re=hp_elitedesk_800-_-9SIA8H53HC9852-_-Product

I'm reluctant to buy off Ebay since I only want to buy legitimate machines with proper serial numbers for hardware and OS. Does anyone have trusted sellers they use on Ebay?

What places am I missing for good deals?

Thanks.

1) wait for a dell outlet sale
2) there is nothing wrong with buying off ebay. Ask for the serial number up front and check it on the hp warranty site. Most have 2.5+years left on the warranty. Once you get the machine update it to windows 10 and you will have a license for life.
I buy most of my machines off ebay, have had zero problems.
I have purchased from this seller before http://www.ebay.com/itm/111857350026
He will give you the serial number so you can check. The auction lists 4570, but I got a brand new 4590 that was in service for only a month.
Whatever you do, dont buy an old server machine, they are power hogs and dont perform well with blue iris despite their passmark scores.
