Rather than hijack a current thread, I've started another. It's a general, how important has been you having audio enabled on your cctv system being my question here.
Currently TV adverts in the UK are featuring a product like Ring's Doorbell as here on youtube, you receive an alert on your smart phone that a stranger with or without a package is at your door. You are able to communicate with the stranger to leave the package in a suitable secure place, leave his Novichok elsewhere or leave your premises ASAP.

When the weather improves here I'll soon be installing a Hikvision PTZ , there's audio input and output available. It's unlikely the mic will pick up anything else other than road noise from passing traffic, front and back doors might be different.

When does having audio become important, either just having a microphone or both microphone and audio output to talk with the postman? What's your experience?

First, do your local laws allow you to record visitors audio?
I use the microphones on my cams and have found it very useful.
Using the output to speak to someone, is more of a gimmick.
