Question: Does anyone know how to reset factory defaults externally on the hikvision ds-2cd2032-I? I've held the reset button down for 60 sec and it does not appear to do anything.

Background: I had the camera working well, but couldn't see it outside my network so was following NetworkCameraCritic's advice (http://www.networkcameracritic.com/?p=1791#comment-5466) from his BLOG (certainly not blaming NetworkCameraCritic, his site is excellent). I changed all the ports to sequential numbers 9000,9001,etc. Now I can no longer access the admin page through the browser. SADP still indicates the correct IP address and port number. When I attempt to change it in SADP it gives me an "failed to modify settings" error.

Any help would be much appreciated. I loved the camera before I messed it up.

I believe to reset this camera you have to unplug the POE cable, press and hold the reset button, plug the POE cable back in while holding the button for 10 seconds. The IP address will be reset to default 192.0.0.6 and password and settings reset to default. Let me know if that does it for you.

Mike is correct, you need to hold down the reset butting while applying power....I believe 15-30 seconds. Are you logging into the camera correctly. ipaddress:9000 (assuming 9000 is the http port)?
As an aside, you don't need to change any ports to view the camera outside your network if you use the hikvision app, all you need to do is forward port 8000 and the rtsp 554.
IF you want to login via the browser then yes, you need to forward the http port as well but that's the only one you need to modify. Just change it to something like 8585. Done.
EDIT: The above information with respect to remote viewing is incorrect. For hikvison cameras, to remotely view via browser you simply need to forward the http port NOTHING else. To remotely view via hikvisions own ivms app, all you need to forward is the media port, nothing else.

Awesome, success it worked as you said. "Unplug the POE cable, press the reset button, plug the POE cable back in and hold the button for 10 seconds." It does however reset your password. All is good with the world again. Thanks Mike!

where is the reset button on turret cams?

I have almost the exact same problem as chilly88, only my camera is a 2CD3332-I Turret cam, and I can't find a reset. I've even opened it up and can't see a button (although I didn't undo the pcbs so there could be one hidden in there somewhere. Before I get too carried away, does anyone know what the deal is? Or should I be posting this as a separate thread?

I would create another thread @No_4, might get more exposure. Also, I cant remember where the reset button is on the turret either.

From my understanding, it's inside the camera, meaning you have to open it up to press reset. Never tried it, so can't say more than that.

You mean choose 8585 for the external port to 80 on the camera right? You shouldn't need to change the ports on the camera itself for any reason.

The reset button for the turret is inside the camera, you have to loosen the bolts and remove the cover to expose it.
