Hikvision to hire 10,000 R&D resources

Pissed at people trying to fix buggy firmware themselves, Hikvision is hiring 10,000 R&D resources. Rumors say that 5,000 of those will be tasked with replacing the current outdated XOR encryption with double ROT13 and the other half will focus on devising a new encryption scheme that does not use the word "HangZhou".

But wow! That's a lot of R&D jobs.
There is no doubt that intelligent vision systems are a big growth area, there are so many applications that can use the technology, much broader than surveillance.

I think they're realizing dahua has been doing a better job in R&D lately it also takes a lot of work to disguise the backdoors for the Chinese government
