So someone installed an 8ch performance series honeywell nvr for a client but he didn't use the common passwords we all use.
We have no way of contacting him now ,since he doesn't work for this company anymore.

He also didn't setup a password reset/recovery email.
We have no other way to go into the system without the password(that we know of)

Does anybody here have any ideas on how i can do that????

Honeywell, I do not believe built anything themselves, I do know they rebranded a LOT of Dahua cameras, If you could give us the model of the NVR and some pic's of the Inside board, and the back, It would be helpful, Also a pic of the Login screen. Have you pulled the cover off and looked for a button or Jumpers for a hard reset?

There is no visible reset button or jumper.20200403_131400.jpg20200403_131400.jpg920200403_131524.jpg

did you try to pull the battery and power it up holding the power switch in ? that is a rebranded dahua. look for any holes with no headers.

Pull out the battery on the main board, unplug it first, leave bat out, hold the power button in for 30 seconds, power it up without the battery in it and see if it cleared the
PROM, On some NVR's if you look, their might be 2 holes on the mainboard without headers, or pins. Sometimes you short them with a paperclip to do a hard reset. I did not see any on yours but you never know.
I have a big problem at times transferring my thoughts to the keyboards ,bear with me. Dyslexia of the keyboards. Do you have a unlock pattern?

Is this what you mean for doing a hard reset? Just put a paper clip on these two holes? This is the only two holes I see on his motherboard. What is the procedure to do it?

Don't do that there - it's a mount point for an electrolytic capacitor.
It's pure guesswork - but the 2 holes next to the alarm I/O connector are better candidates.
But the 'short these 2 pads for a reset' method has only previously been mentioned for IP cameras, to my knowledge..

I think you'd have a better, safer, chance by connecting up to the serial console.
That may be available via what's presumably a DB9 serial interface on the back panel.
You'd need an RS232 interface (not TTL serial) and a null modem cable.

Yes - but I've only seen that method tried on Dahua IP cameras.
Personally I would not do it unless the manufacturer has documented it.

You'd need an RS232 interface (not TTL serial) and a null modem cable.
Indeed, that's the solution I recently used to reset a bricked 16 channel Honeywell NVR (HEN16102).

I used this guide for the basis of the firmware recovery and reset. Using a standard DB9 serial cable to USB with a seperate null modem, it worked perfectly.

Summary of steps;

1/ Connect serial cable using USB converter and null modem cable

2/ Configure Putty session
Baud Rate: 115200
Parity: None
Bits: 8
Stopbits: 1
Flow control: None

3/ Hold down key (*) to enter the boot loader

4/ Set environment variables (as per your environment)
# setenv serverip 192.168.1.99
# setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.108
# setenv netmask 255.255.0.0
# setenv gatewayip 192.168.1.1

4/ Confirm environment variables are set
# printenv

4/ Run TFT server on Windows PC hosting the extracted firmware files
TFT server host
# 192.168.1.99

5/ Test network connection
# ping 192.168.1.99

6/ Reflash the kernel
# run dr

7/ Reflash the other partitions, only if required
# run dw
# run dl
# run dc
# run de

7/ Reset the system configuration
# eracfg

8/ Reboot
# boot

Hope still active, since long time already the reply. I do have the same model honeywell hen16102.
I have question about the point no 4. where i can get the firmware files?

Can we just reset into factory default through rs232?

Thank you very much for the help

I have something similar, a HEN08102. As for shorting the those pads, I tried it with gloves on. It made a spark and reset the DVR but it didn't reset the password, so probably best not to try that method! I don't have a serial to USB cable so I wonder if taking out the battery would work.. Anyone tried that? the trouble is.. it's fixed really well to the board and I worried I might break the bracket off holding the battery in..
