I remember reading how to do this somewhere but searching hasn't led me to the location yet.

I plan to use the 2x4 in a bucket and attach the camera to the post however I need instructions on how to view the camera feed on one of my laptops.

Do I need to have an internet connection on my laptop?

How would I power the camera? Since it's obviously Poe.

If I have 2 cameras "somewhat" pointing at each other maybe 50 ft apart would I get a lot of IR conflicts between the two?

Bump. I am looking to try this later this month.

What settings if any would I need to change?

If you don't have a POE switch, then you can use a 12vdc power brick.

Your laptop needs to be on the same subnet as the cam.
Dahua default IP is 192.168.1.108 so your laptop's IP would need to be for example 192.168.1.100

How to Assign a Static IP Address in Windows 7, 8, 10, XP, or Vista

No internet required.

Pointing at each other, most likely not, but that's why you do a test setup, lots of variables at play.

If I go the 12 vdc power adapter route for testing can I simply then just connect a cat cable from the cam to my laptop to view the feed? Viewing the feed from the appropriate cam ip. I think yes but not 100% certain.

Chase, did you read the links I provided?
From one link, it advises:
"hook it up directly to a laptop, use a poe switch/injector in between."
Or provide a 12V power supply....
And change ip addr of laptop ethernet port.

Giving the benefit of the doubt, maybe I don't understand your question....
