So, we took over a building that has existing IP Cameras.
My ip addresses are 192.xx
I believe, the other cameras were set to 172.xx

The 172.x cameras are showing power on my PoE switch.
I really don't feel like climbing a ladder 4 times to reset the cameras. Does anyone have any ideas to reset them another way?

I was think this might work?
1. Get a spare router, create a 172.xx network
2. Log into each camera ($20 bucks says they left it as default password)
3. Change the settings there.

Would that work?

Just plug a laptop or such into the switch they are using, change the laptops address to the same range as the cams.

Really?
I'll try that.
The switch they are using is already connected to the 192.x router which is our network.
Would that make a difference?

So I just plug my laptop into the router, go to TCP/IP settings and change the address to 172.x.whatever?
I didn't think I could do that without a router or something that was on a 172.x network

Switches (simple ones at least) don't care about IP addresses. They operate at a layer below IP in the network stack. So yes, as long as the laptop and the camera are on the same switch with no router or firewall between them, you can temporarily change the laptop's IP address to put it on the same subnet as the camera.

Thanks for the advice.

So, I'm just going to..
1. disconnect the Netgear Pro Safe PoE switch from the router
2. restart it
3. Connect my laptop to the switch
4. Change laptops subnet to 172.x

Then I'm wondering, how do I find the camera? I don't know the exact ip address?

Really hope this works. This would save me having to get a lift machine to reach the cameras that are on the exterior of the warehouse.
