Is just a standard condensor mic enough for the MIC input source for this model of camera?

I tried a standard CIRCA 2001 pink-plug PC Mic and it doesn't seem to do anything.

However, if I plug in a pre-amplified audio source, like my phone's audio output whilst playing Spotify, I can hear that just fine.

Here because I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong :).

You need an electret condensor mike which is powered and amplified so it can output enough audio to be used with the cam.

That's because it's not powered and amplified.

As above, because it's pre-amplified.
