I am comparing these two cameras:
and

The top one is 4MP with 1/1.8 sensor, bottom one is 8MP with 1/2.8 sensor.

Use case for me - this would be covering my front door and part of my driveway. Here is a pic from the current Lorex camera I would be replacing:

Goal is to be able to ID at 20' or so, have good night vision (though the lights are on (dimmed) all night for this - it's mainly for looks, they do add some light though)

Any recommendations on which way to go? The 4MP is $200, while the 8MP is $149, so not sure if there are other major differences. I think I know the sensor size matters.

Any help?

Sensor size and resolution size matter a lot. The 5442 series is 4MP and a much larger sensor versus the 2831 with 8MP on a significantly smaller sensor. The result is that less light gets to each pixel of the sensor in the 8MP between doubling the number of pixels and having the smaller sensor. I'd consider the 5442T-ZE or B5442E-ZE depending on which form factor you prefer. The reason for the "ZE" is for the varifocal feature so you can get an ID, reliably, at 20 feet.
