I don't currently have a fire tv.

Can use the app to control a fire tv when you're on a different network (eg. on a cellular connection)?

I know roku and chromecast require you to be on the same network to control them. I haven't been able to find a definitive answer to whether the fire tv also requires this. I know there are various VPN options, but in this case I'd rather not go that route unless I have to.

Yes, I think it will work off different network but it will ask you to input the 4 or 6 digit code that appear on TV screen in the FireTV App

I remember operating FireTV from my phone via cellular connection and WiFi wasn’t enabled on the iPhone since you had to log in Amazon account to control it remotely
