folks - is there a way on the android/iphone mobile app to choose a particular date/time to see footage. The slider for me doesn't work very well - 4x is the max it slides across and 8x doesn't work reliably at all

No not a particular time, but you can go to a particular date and search by alerts. You should be able to easily using the slider or up the speed unless you have a poor internet connection.
