Hello to all!

First, thank you up front to all of the helpful board members! I have been lurking for about a week and finally decided it is time to join.

As the title states, I am new to BI (purchased a license December) and I am just learning how to use the software with my 5 cameras. I currently have (1) 720P PTZ Dome, (2) 1080P PTZ Dome and (2) 3MP Bullet Outdoor cameras, all Amcrest (Dahua). I clearly have a lot to learn as far as configuring BI properly...

But, before I go much further, it is time to get a dedicated machine as my XPS laptop cannot be asked to handle the cameras and everything that I am throwing at it already.

From reading a ton of the threads I gather that the Optiplex (Dell) or Elitedesk (HP) systems are the most recently recommended systems, SFF or Mini Tower seems to be a debate at times. I am a big fan of Dell Outlet so that is where I am starting.

So, not looking to spend for the 7th gen systems I am looking at the Intel specs (Intel® Product Specification Comparison) at the i5-6500, i5-6600 & i7-6700 it would seem that all 3 would be capable, it is just a matter of which system I can score as a deal.

As far as the chassis size is concern, it seems there is more involved here based on 3040/5040/7040 systems.

For instance, for RAM (OptiPlex: Memory Compatibility Guide | Dell US) the 3040 max RAM is 16 GB, but while the 5040 MT maxes out at 16 GB the MT can handle up to 32 GB. The 7040 SFF & MT both can handle 32 GB (I would not even consider the Mini) and faster memory.

So, given all of this information, what are the thoughts on this 7040 system for $479:

Processor: Intel Core 6th Generation i5-6600 Processor (Quad Core, 3.3GHz, 6M Cache, 65W)
Windows 10 Pro
128GB 2.5-Inch SATA Class 20 Solid State Drive
8 GB DDR4 Non-ECC UDIMM 2400MHz (2x4GB)
Tray load DVD Drive (Reads and Writes to DVD/CD)
Intel Integrated Graphics
Dell Outlet Optiplex 7040 Small Form Factor

I am going to keep looking and maybe I will score an i7-6700, but I am leaning towards paying extra for the 7040 chassis.

Thank you for any thoughts/opinions/limericks/etc.!
(Sorry about the long post... first posts are always a thoughts-dump for me.)
