Hello All, I am new to this and have a few quick questions.

I plan on getting this NVR5208-8P-4KS2 from EmpireTechAndy. I want to put in a 3TB hard drive. Which one can I use?

How does Dahua IPC-HDW5831R-ZE 8MP compare to the Dahua 2mp starlight cam at night?

Also what are the best Ethernet cables to use for the system?

Minimum illumination specs:
5831: .2 lux
5231: .05 lux

So the 5831 needs about 4x more light than a 5231 (2MP Starlight)

There are newer 8MP cameras <1831/2831> with bigger 1/1.8” sensors (the 5831 has a smaller 1/2.5” sensor). but the newer ones still need about 1.5-2x more light than a 2MP Starlight model.

FWIW, as good as the 2MP Starlights do in low-light, it can still be difficult *in some circumstances* to get blur-free videos on fine details at night (like faces). Higher MP cameras usually have that problem during most circumstances at night.

Both Western Digital and Seagate make models for NVRs. WD Purples are probably the most recommended.

You have to make your own Ethernet cables in order to use the waterproof connector that ships with the cameras. There are a few threads on that.

Thanks for responding. I really appreciate it.

I thought of another question. Can this NVR allow motion push notifications to my iPhone and Apple Watch?
