Hey, I wanted to see if I have these settings correct and hope this helps anyone else reading.

I have a HP EliteDesk G4 i5-8500 - load is at 10-11%
I am just using 2 8MP cams right now: Dahua IPC-HFW1831E (I want to get these settings dialed in before adding more cams)

INFO:
3000 kB/s
250 MP/s
Quick Sync enabled
CPU Temperature is 140-160 F
CPU usage: 30-38%
Blue Iris 5 latest version update
BI GUI is maximized at all times since I am mirroring screens to see cams in other rooms
2 connections to ui3 / VPN using phone/app sometimes.

I have all these settings from the IPCT Wiki:
Optimizing Blue Iris's CPU Usage | IP Cam Talk

Some settings & info from camera/task manager:

Some issues:

At night I get some ghosting of people walking by (cars are fine)
During day it is ok - cars don't jump but they are not moving that smoothly during the day
I have a lot of light outside at night but it does not stay in color and goes b/w - is there a setting to keep it in color. It had a yellow tint to it before switching some settings to get it b/w color.

Any pro advice would be very helpful. If I need to add any other information please let me know.

Thank you

Have you performed a fresh clean install using MS Media creation tool?
What else are you running on the computer beside's BI. Your CPU at 44% is high.
You can set the cameras to stay in color in the cameras setup.

Fresh install with MS media creating tool yes.

Firefox was running with cam settings - closing helped drop it to 33%.

What settings keep it in color?

what are you using the sub stream on the camera for ? If not used turn it off.
Try setting bit rate type to VBR.
Are you running BI as a service ?
Why are you using UI3 can you use the console ?
How are you mirroring the screen ?

Ok. Thanks for the info.

I removed substream.

VBR is set and for quality I chose "6(best)"

BI is NOT running as a service - should it?

UI3 is running so you can view it in other rooms

Right now I am mirroring screen with 2 display ports - 1 goes into main room screen and other is connected using ethernet and this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007NHHLA0

I am going to be using this to add another monitor soon:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BVWKDJP

--changing to VBR 6/best - it is now at 28%

Thank you again

it is recommend that BI be set to run as a service.
I would use a multiple HDMI 3-4 port splitter So the CPU is not driving two monitors. You can run the BI console to display on all 3 monitors. The UI3 will also work

That is perfect. It will make more sense to just mirror 1 output. I tried to install nvidia graphic cards but it removed quick sync. I thought it would be better to just run screen off nvidia graphic card instead and trying to figure out how to use the nvidia card without having quicksync disabling.

How can the sub streams be used? Maybe a stupid question but I have enabled on all my cams as I thought they were needed?

I am not sure - I disabled substream and everything works fine. I am sure others would know how this is used.

I am at 25-30% which is better with some of the tips I was giving here.

i went with VBR and have 20fps and 40iframe - just to see difference and picture seems better...

no ghosting at night.

I am at 30% - 35% CPU usage and computer temp is 145-160 always. I think adding another stronger fan in back should fix the heat though.

For computer heat - I ended up adding a USB fan on back of computer and it dropped to 117-130F. A bit better.

What are your BI computers running at heat wise?

Substreams would be used for smaller screens that dont need full resolution. Such as your phone or a tablet.
Only applies if you are pulled the video directly from the camera.
If BI is the only thing pulling video from your cams, you can turn off the substreams.

Does anyone have any good Dahua cam settings they'd like to share.

I am still at the same with just 2 4k/8MP cams:
45% CPU usage
18% GPU
31% RAM (4.9 out of 15.8 GB used)

I thought I had all the right settings but it seems a bit high for just 2 cams running. I did change to 20FPS and 20iframe interval

Thank you

10-15fps
try lowering the bitrate
Lower the Saturation to 40.

Do you have all the BI folders excluded from any anti-virus?

Thank you for your time.

I am not sure about the anti-virus - it is a brand new install of windows 10 and the windows firewall allowed all for blue iris. The BI folders are on my main W10 nvme drive desktop. Is there a way to check if they are excluded from the anti-virus? I don't have any other anti-virus on this BI computer.

For FPS - I watch this with HDMI splitter so I wanted a bit better quality. I was getting some ghosting at night. The FPS is creating a better live video for viewing. I thought you can only get 4K quality with the right FPS?

Bitrate is only at 8192. Is it high? I seen higher but I was not sure what would be best.

Lowered saturation to 40.

Settings right now:

Thanks

I feel this was way too hot at the 140-160F.

I added an outside fan to the case and it has dropped to 115-135F

I used 60mm 5V Noctua fan:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01K4HVBBU/

Mounts to hold it in place:

https://www.amazon.com/Noctua-NA-SAV4-Anti-Vibration-Silicon-Mount-Accessory/dp/B071W6KYCG/

And for power:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW50R03/

It seems to do a good job with any extra heat. BI is a CPU killer. I thought a i5-8500 would be able to handle things much better.

I am now at 330 MP/s / 250 kB/s

Thanks again everyone that helped and gave tips.

With this setup still a lot of ghosting. A lot of light outside - no IR on.
