The data sheet for Hikvision DS-2CD2342WD-I says: "Power Consumption: Maximum 5.5 W (maximum 7.5 W with IR cut filter on)".
I am not concerned about the cost of the additional 2W, but nevertheless I am trying to understand why the IR cut filter needs more power. I would have assumed that, if anything, the IR LEDs (not the filter) might need additional power. I thought the filter is a mechanical filter that just filters out the IR wavelengths before they hit the sensor. Am I correct in my understanding that the camera basically uses 2W more in day mode? I would be glad if somebody could explain. Thanks in advance.
