I would like to secure a relatively large object consisting of 3 houses and approximately 25000 m² of land, this is

12 cameras on the houses
2 cameras in the garages
about 6 cameras along the fence to the street and the gates

planned.

I like the new 5442 series, especially the Eyeball IPC-HDW5442TM-AS (https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/33357) because it's smaller and with audio and 4MP with starlight. For the cameras on the fences will certainly be used something else with zoom / mobile.

I already had several cameras to test here, but what I do not know is how do I connect them all? Do I need a separate server for this?

My wish was that you record a certain time (possibly only selected cameras) and then the data, for example. 1 week holds before being overwritten.

Is there a recommendation for this number of cameras?

There are from Dahua suitable network recorders: https://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/productDetail/19891

Fits like that? For what are the versions with 16/32 or 64 chanels if every one has only 16 ports.

Or what would be your solution?

On a 20 camera setup you can use either a computer running BI (a 8th generation or better) or a 32 port NVR.
You need to calculate the Mbps for the total system.
All cameras must be wired, Use only solid copper, AWG 23 or 24 ethernet wire. , no CCA (Copper Clad Aluminum).

I recommend recording full time on all cameras,if recording on time or motion you will miss the important action

If you take, as an example, an NVR5208, the 5 points to "professional" 5 series (where the 4 is more mid-range meaning lower bandwidth etc). The 2 points on a system with dual hard drive setup. You have also single slot machines or 4+ systems. Pricewise they go a bit up. The "08" points out that you have 8 camera licenses (to say it otherwise: you have 8 channels) - independently if they are connected remotely (on your network) or locally (on the NVR POE port - if present).
So the magic is within the numbers behind the NVRxxxx. Either you find systems with 8P, 16P or more. The 8P means 8 physical onboard POE ports. The block of numbers after the XXP (eg 4KS or 4KS2 or 4KS2E) - that E points out whether (or not) these POE ports are POE+ (or not) - maybe not all might be POE+ either!

To give a mathematical example: an NVR5232-16P-4KS2 can record, IVS treat and visualise 32 channels (cameras), of which 16 cameras can (not mandatory) be fed through the POE on the backplane of that NVR.

There are pro (and cons) of using the onboard POE, you can read about this discussion on the forum. But bandwidth wise, you should incalculate that your NVR at least can handle the upstream. Throttling your (expensive) 4k cams to HD-ready resolutions because the NVR (or bi pc) cannot handle it, that is not a well thought through design.

Hope this helps!

A number of NVRs will process 32 channels. You will need to add a Poe switch to get the additional cameras above 16.
