I have had this 214PTZ mounted in the outdoor housing for about 15 years. about a year ago the fan on it started making all kinds of noise, so I unplugged it, living in california, didn't think that would be much of an issue, but it was. The board ended up frying about a month ago. So now I am wondering if I could upgrade to a newer HD type camera and still fit in the housing, less the climate control board. HAs anyone done this? any suggestions. This is a residential environment, so I don't really need to go with the high end AXIS like I did 15 years ago, was hoping to replace it with a cheaper but higher quality image.

704x576 resolution, I'd say you're long overdue for an upgrade. I wouldn't bet on finding something that works well with your old outdoor housing. Domes also degrade with UV exposure over time.

Look at 2mp starlight ptzs from Dahua.
I'll be the guinea pig for the new SD59225U-HNI PTZ.
SD59225U-HNI

SD59230U-HNI | Dahua Technology

Dahua 2MP 25x Starlight IR PTZ Network Camera (SD49225T-HN)
SD49225T-HN | Dahua Technology

SD49212T-HN | Dahua Technology

There are some higher end PTZs you could consider too in the SD6 series.
