I'm wondering if anyone has used a gaming joystick to control a PTZ camera? My Dahua SD49225T-HN camera hasn't arrived yet but I'll be setting it up for someone who's not exactly tech savvy so I want to make a super simple interface for him.

I was thinking a gaming joystick mounting next to a monitor would let him control it simply. I don't see much available after a quick google search.

If all else fails I can homebrew something using a Raspberry Pi, Python and the Dahua HTTP API, but of course I don't want to reinvent a wheel that's already been invented.

Feature wise I'm thinking:

- joystick left/right is pan left/right
- joystick up/down is pan up/down
- joystick up/down with fire button held is zoom in/out
- joystick buttons could be mapped to presets to zoom in on specific spots
