How To Upgrade Amcrest / Lorex to Dahua Firmware And Get All Dahua Features

Any more developments here? I just purchased the IP2M-853EW and that crosses over to DH_SD-Mao-Rhea_MultiLang_NP_Stream3_IVS_V2.623.0000000.7.R.181124 firmware based on the HWID of CA-HZ2012T-S2 found by SSH'ing into the Amcrest . The Webgui of the Amcrest will not take the bin file. I have heard of others doing TFTP do upload the image file to the camera but I am not exactly sure how to do that.

Update Figured it out and am all set now.

I saw this thread and grabbed a Amcrest IP8M-T2499EW on sale for $88. This thread has been very helpful to me so I would like to share some observations to help out other IPCAMTALKers. I've owned a couple of Dahua bullet cameras for about 2 years, they are solid and reliable. Also owned a few Amcrest IP2M-841 (cheap I know) but they have also been reliable. So the idea of changing an Amcrest into a real Dahua intrigued me.

The IP8M-T2499EW arrived with the 2.622.00AC000.0.R Build Date 2019-04-15 firmware. When using Chrome as a browser a pluggin is required to view the video. I dislike pluggins so I skipped the pluggin and went straight over to the Setup tab and looked around. Yep, looks very much like a Dahua layout alright.

With the 2.622.00AC000.0.R Build Date 2019-04-15 firmware:

Main Stream resolutions are:
3840*2160 (3840x2160) at 15 fps max
3072*2048 (3072x2048)
3072*1728 (3072x1728) at 25 fps max
2592*1944 (2592x1728)
2688*1520 (2688x1520)
2304*1296 (2304x1296)
1920*1080 (1080P) at 30 fps max
1280*960 (1.3)
1280*720 (720P)

There are 2 Sub Streams available. Sub Stream 1 is enabled by default but Sub Stream 2 is disabled by default (must check the Enable box). Sub Stream 1 is 640*480 (VGA) and Sub Stream 2 is 640*480 (VGA), that's it, so the available Sub Stream resolutions are extremely limited with this firmware.

Motion triggered videos that are uploaded to my local FTP server (hand-me-down Windows10 PC running Filezilla) are MP4 format which I much prefer over the DAV format.


So the next step was to upgrade the firmware. With the Amcrest V2.622.00AC000.0.R Build Date 2019-10-24 firmware I no longer needed a pluggin to view the video using Chrome.

Main Stream resolutions are:
3840*2160 (3840x2160) at 15 fps max
3072*2048 (3072x2048)
3072*1728 (3072x1728) at 25 fps max
2592*1944 (2592x1728)
2688*1520 (2688x1520)
2304*1296 (2304x1296)
1920*1080 (1080P) at 30 fps max
1280*960 (1.3)
1280*720 (720P)

The good news is that both Sub Streams now have several resolutions to pick from.
Sub Stream 1 resolutions are:
704*480 (D1)
640*480 (VGA)
352*240 (CIF)

SubStream 2 resolutions are:
1920*1080 (1080P)
1280*720 (720P)
704*480 (D1)

The rest of the menus and sub menus look about the same, no extra added feature. FTP uploaded videos are still MP4 format.

Now its time to try the Dahua IPC-HX5X3X-Rhea_MultiLang_NP_Stream3_V2.800.0000014.0.R.191203 firmware which installed with no problem and after a reboot the Amcrest logo is gone and its a Dahua logo now. I could still view the video in Chrome without the pluggin. The Main, Sub 1 and Sub 2 Streams are all exactly the same as before. However, under the Event menu Smart Plan, IVS and Face Detection have been added. I need to understand these better before I can comment on these new additions.

A downside to the Dahua firmware is the FTP uploaded videos are no longer MP4 format, they have changed to DAV format. Is DAV inherently better than MP4? I tried to revert to the 2019-10-24 Amcrest firmware to get the MP4 format back but it would not accept the Amcrest firmware. Does anyone know a way to go from the Dahua firmware back to the Amcrest firmware?

Not to get too excited but it doesn't look like a difference to me. In my case, I've only found the login splash and interface to have different colors. I'm just happy to get away from Amcrest as far as I can.

Any luck finding the dahua FW to use for the IP2M-841? I have 2 of those myself. They're "ok" I guess but they do drop signal occasionally. fwiw, I also have a IP3M-941. Same thing, "ok I guess" but it has dropped signal before. I was just curious if the dahua FW would be any better or give more features. From searching like I did for the other camera I flashed (Amcrest IP8M-2493E cameras to Dahua N84CL52), I can't find any dahua firmware that I could flash these with.

Next on the list to try are doing the same for my Laview LV-PB3140WC and LV-PD514028C (which are essentially the same camera, the first is the bullet, the second is the dome).

If you read this thread backwards, on the previous page you will find that there is no Dahua firmware for the IP2M-841/941 cameras because there are no equivalent Dahua cameras.
What do you mean by "drop signal"? If you run them over WiFi that's the problem. They definitely don't "drop signal" over Ethernet. That said, I run a couple of those cameras over WiFi and they don't drop the signal. Look into your WiFi setup. I have an Ubiquity access point which is very stable.

I also have a 841 over Ethernet(in the garage), and it is working great. There is no Dahua firmware for this camera.
I have three AC Asus routers(RT-AC88U, RT-AC3100 and RT-AC68U), turned into iMesh routers and I don't have any kind of wi-fi issues.

I agree. I had searched the thread for "841" and saw those posts. I was hoping that there might be something out there still. I like the 841 camera. I like the size of the "cube cams" I see better though. I really don't need PTZ at all (imho....that's just my personal not needing that feature). If I could have got the cube cams for the same price I paid for these, and the wireless worked as good as these, I'd be happier. But for now, until I can get ethernet ran, I can live with it.

As for dropping signal, the BI logfile on these says "Signal: timeout; check IP address and port". I show sufficient signal strength (841 in the front room, the asus app shows Connection quality of -70 dBm, Tx 72.2Mbps, Rx 65 Mbps) on these 841 cameras and it only happens once a day at most, sometimes twice I suppose. My router is an Asus RT-AX88U and it's plenty close enough. I also have static ip addys assigned in the router to these cameras so they're always the same. Its not a big deal or anything and I can live with once or twice a day. They're inside cameras watching the doors from the inside. I wish they were in a location where I could run ethernet but for now, I don't think they are.

Not to get off topic but I'm glad you've had good luck w/ the Asus mesh. My Asus GT-AC5300 had a horrible time trying to run their mesh. Over at SNBForums (ASUS Wireless) is a lot of talk about the problems that Asus have. Now that the AC5300 is gone and I have an AX88U, I'm afraid to enable any asus mesh as once I did it on the AC5300, I couldn't get it off and neither could tech support.

The problem with the 841s and WiFi is that they are 2.4 GHz only. Lots of interference even if the access point is close. I forgot to mention that the two cameras I run on WiFi are on 5 GHz and not a single drop. I specifically bought the 941 (and 1051) for this. They are 5 GHz capable.

But did you gain anything by doing this? I did not notice anything better on my 2499. In fact, I think there is a problem with turning on WDR. I don't use in-camera features as I use it with BI. Those extra features are obvious gain after changing the firmware. But otherwise I don't see any positives.

When upgrading from Amcrest to Dahua, I noticed I had to put the latest Amcrest firmware on each of my 4k (bullet & turret) cameras, then I was able to successfully upgrade. Hope that helps!

Well for anyone that has the IP8M-2496 cameras (the ones that are always on Amazon deals), I went ahead and tried this and can confirm that BINGO......IT WORKS ! Now have IVS on these cams. I will let you know that I did have to upgrade the Amcrest to the latest first then go ahead and upgrade to the Dahua. Also it does keep your old password so don't worry that you are not prompted to setup new. The old firmware upgrade screen looked different but the new one looked very similar to the Dahua upgrade screens we are used to so knew it was looking good.

I have the same camera and been trying to find the new firmware for it on the amcrest website. Can you point me in the right direction? And, if you wouldn't mind, do you have the firmware link for the Dahua firmware you used?

EDIT: never mind. the video is great for all this. amcrest website for their firmware. Then the dahuawiki site for the dahua firmware.
