Where to do bulk of camera settings? In Blue Iris or local to camera?

I am finally getting around to messing with the Dahua turrets I bought and am wondering how most people adjust the settings for their cameras.

Are you supposed to make most of your adjustments/settings locally to the camera and then Blue Iris is used more as only a recording service? Or do you also adjust camera settings in Blue Iris?

Also, while I have you (and because I couldn't find how to adjust it in BI, which is what led me to ask the above question). Is there a way to know what focal length a varifocal is set to so that you could buy the corresponding fixed focal length camera? I have an IPC-T5442TM-AS 2.8mm and an IPC-T5442T-ZE VF. I am currently messing with the VF but have no clue what it is set to unless I am at either extreme.

You have to make the changes in each camera itself.

Not sure on your second question as I don't own any varifocal cameras myself.

That is what I was thinking, but just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the confirmation.

Hopefully someone can help out with the VF question. There are only two options in the fixed version anyways, so it's not that big of an issue I suppose.
