DAHUA - IPC-HDW5231R-ZE disconnection then immediately reconnects.

Hello,

I have 2 of these cameras connected to a synology DS918+ running synology’s surveillance station. For some reason one of the cameras will at random times mostly at night disconnect and immediately reconnect. The camera will throw notification 3 or 4 times for a minute or so. Then it will run just fine for hours. The other camera is rock solid. The cameras have been setup the same. I can list the setting if needed.

Could you guys give me some idea on what could cause this behavior?

This question is asked A lot here, Where to start..I always like to start AT the cam and work backwards but IF you think your power and wiring are ok, you could try this first. Log on to the cam that is NOT giving you a issue and backup or download the config file. Save it on a thumb drive. Then log on to the other cam and upload it, you might have to change the name of the cam back to what it was but that should eliminate a configuration issue. If that does NOT work then you might have to test all your network stuff. You did not say how you are powering it. Sometimes its a lot easier to dismount it and bench test it. It could be as simple as a bad crimp or faulty power source.

Thank you Chris for the idea, so by udloading I would be 100% sure of same configuration. The cameras are powered from poe switch. I made my own cables and have for yrs. I’m very capable of making a bad crimp. I will try the config file upload and report back. That seams like the easiest path forward. The weather outside is not co-operating. Will have to wait on camera end cable evaluation.

you also need to ensure that you are using the 568 standard.

If is easy swapping the cameras, you should get a clue on where the issue could be ...

It is always a good idea once you get your cams to your liking and running stable to back up the config file. Especially if you have other cams of the same model. Just check your firmware ver. on your two cams to see if they match, sometimes that is not always a given. A backed up config file has saved my ass from having to dismount a cam or two and do a hard reset.

Log into camera > System > Auto maintain > Disable auto reboot.

IP conflicts can trigger it, although i would expect that more frequently. Are you using DHCP or static allocations?
 
Reviving an old thread.
I am having the same issue (IPC-HFW1831 and DS3018xs, auto maintenance turned off on cameras, firewall turned off on NAS) with the difference that I did copy the config from another camera before experiencing the issue so now all my cameras experience the random disconnects. It looks like it is a reboot because the length of the disconnection is about 1 minute and 40 seconds. It is random and can happen 3 times one day and then not for the next 20 hours. It happens with different cables and on different ports of the POE switch.

I might reset one of the cameras to factory defaults and try another POE switch next but any suggestions are welcome.
 
That would be the direction I would be heading. Before I Import and swap config files, I always back up the current one in case things get all bad, this firmware is just Zeros and Ones and you never know.

I have tried resetting the camera but that made no difference. I looked at the camera logs but could not find any entries showing a reboot because the logs were full of login/logoff entries from the Synology Nas. I enabled remote logging and was able to sift through thousands of entries and I can see that after it reboots there is an entry to "save settings" but other than that there is no log for a crash or a reboot.

Interestingly the two cameras with the reboot problem create login/logoff log entries at least once a second (sometimes twice). The other cameras only register logins/logoffs every 25 secedes or more and do not reboot nearly as much. I am thinking that maybe the Synology Nas logs in/off too many times and crashes the cameras. I haven't had much time to try chase that up yet.
 
Update: The issue persists . I updated the firmware to Apri'19 and I set the cameras to reboot everyday (separate tests) and it makes it a little better but the reboots are still random.
 
I had Surveillance Station connect/disconnect a ton of times because:

1) I tried to use the SS Dahua specific profile instead of ONVIF GENERIC
2) I pushed the frame rate higher than my hardware could handle (had to settle at
1080x1920@20 FPS)

When I fixed these two, the camera has stayed solid. SS will however still be extremely sensitive if it can’t connect every minute. When I tried a wireless extension instead of powerline, I got tons of disconnect warnings because the wireless was a bit flaky and probably timed out now and then.

I have re read all you have posted, Have you actually pulled one in and bench tested it, It should be completely Isolated from your network, Like PC or Laptop___Power Injector or POE switch and camera, and let them run to see what happens, because you have multiple cams doing it, I suspect someplace in your network or other hardware conflict is causing this, The chances of having 2 bad cams is pretty high.
