For the life of me, I can't figure out this scene - I figured the lighting would be perfect.

Our goal for this scene:

1. When the video is stopped, be able to read the bags better at the red line in the image below.
2. Figure out why the gentleman looks pixelated when the video is stopped (example at the 6 or 7 second mark).
3. Figure out why there is a color streak in the video.
4. Brighten up the scene a tad.

Red line image mentioned above:

Are you running any backlight setting? It kinda looks like WDR or SSA is on?

I think your troubles , say vs a front of a house, is that the light is straight up 20ft in the air. You dont get as much light on faces as you would with say a porch light at just above head level.

Also FWIW in that environment with facial detail and reading letters on bags I would recommend a good 4K camera. But mostly I think its a lighting issue

Zoom in more if you can. Try increasing bitrate to 12,288, up FPS to 20 or 25, up shutter speed a little more as you can given the light, gain down to 50, sharpening down to 25-ish. Along with reducing DNR, that should be about as good as it gets (at the expense of using more resources). Maybe play with brightness/contrast some from there to get it a little better.

Can you work with snapshots? That might be a better image.

Good morning and thank y'all for your input!

Backlight is off.

Also, here are two other settings that are still at default, which is Auto:

Thank you, I will try these settings today.

Those two numbers - you want them as low as they can go before the image is too noisy/pixelated.

The higher the number, the "smoother" or "cleaner" the image, but the higher number contributes to motion blur.

Try 25 for both and see what the image looks like.

This and same goes for shutter. Faster is better until image becomes too dark/noisy

Those two things effect how we can freeze and image as crisply as possible. They both produce too much noise as you lower the number at some point. Fine line, so start low as @wittag suggests and increase in small steps to get desired balance.
Try same on shutter, maybe 0-1 or 0-2, you can use decimals as well, like 0-2.3

Updated video with the following changes:

  • increased zoom
  • increased Bit Rate and I Frame

The video still seems pixelated and has color streaking.... I didn't want too much at one time, so now I work with the shutter, DNR, etc.
