CES 2022 was held in Vegas again this year after a virtual CES for 2021. It's always fun to see the latest electronics gadgets the creative manufacturers are trying to bring to market. Many of the products are prototype and may never make to market. This year was no exception. CES is usually a time for camera manufacturers to introduce new models and it's a great time to get hands on experience with the cameras and talk to the manufacturers representatives.

I started attending the show in 1998 when it was moved from Chicago to Las Vegas. Previous years the crowd numbers were high and the exhibit area was so tight that seeing everything was almost impossible. I spend the four days from opening to close on the floor and know that I am not going to see it all. This year crowd numbers were down considerably and the show floor was laid out for social distancing. Lots of room between exhibits, wider isles and lots of open space in the halls made it much more enjoyable. At the last minute, CES decided to cut a day from the show schedule. With the lower number of manufacturers and attendees, I think I was able to see about everything in three days. The whole experience this year was actually better than years past.

BUT, the main reason I attend is to see the latest in camera technology. This year I was disappointed to find Sony brought their electric car, a new satellite technology and a few other items. No cameras at all. Canon did the same. No cameras. Same with Panasonic. Nikon backed out of the show just a few days prior to the opening.

Even with the lack of consumer cameras, camera technology was present at the show. AI was present in many of the products. AI based on camera technology. From self driving cars to security systems to home automation to cameras in your refrigerator that will tell you when you are out of milk. There was a exhibit that had an automated pet feeder that would only open when the correct pet would show itself. Past years this product line used a tag on the collar of the animal. Now it recognizes the face of the pet. Useful when you have multiple pets with different diet requirements.

Another technology that was present for the first time was restaurant automation. From ordering to food delivery to the table, it was all done by robots. I guess they work cheaper, no vacation, no workmans comp, no social security and hopefully, no tipping. The underlying technology is all based around camera AI.

Seeing all the AI products makes me wonder what we are going to do with all the displaced workforce. If I was a kid in high school and had a technical aptitude, I think getting into electrical, mechanical or computer engineering and specializing in robotics would be a good career choice.

So, here are a few pictures of some of the products at the show.

Electric vehicles were everywhere. Cars, bicycles, motorcycles, airplanes, tractors, etc.

That's about it. Looking forward to next year!

That would be my least favorite of the "new tech."

If I was 20 (30 ?) years younger and lived in a snow-prone area I'd love to have that Moonbike for the snow! Looks like tons of fun...as long as you know where the big rocks, tree stumps, etc. are! :highfive:

Snowbot looks interesting... Just spent 1.5 hours clearing our driveway of snow.

I talked to one of the reps in the booth. He said it will work in up to about 8" of cold dry snow. Wet snow it has a problem. If there is ice under the snow, then no go. For me, in Nebraska, it would not work very well. The snow we get usually comes with lots of wind. The snow falls and then the wind arranges it into large drifts.

Don't think that would work here either. Lots of wet snow in the spring and plenty ofdrifts over 8" all winter not to mention long curvy driveway over 300 feet which would mean tons of those little beacon things to keep it aligned.

What’s the story on the rifles?

Or are they just pellet guns?
I can only imagine some of the clientele that would visit a show like that would need to spend the next few weeks in therapy after seeing a firearm.

Yup, that product will fail. They need to work out all of the kinks before they send it to market. Who wants to pay thousands of dollars for something you can use 50% or less of the time, as well as never know until you go out to analyze the snow before you send it out.

Wait......is that a Bugatti surrounded with electric sidewalk scooters? Has Bugatti fallen to making scooters now? If so, they are probably $1,000,000 a piece.......

It was more about the high tech night vision scopes. The rifles were all props.

Ah, OK. Bugatti just licensed it's name out to some cheap scooter MFR. It's kind of humorous, actually. 18 MPH for a sidewalk scooter vs. 273 MPH for a Chiron with a V16 in it. I wonder if the scooter has a little cheap speaker built into that plays Chiron engine starting noises while you are going down the sidewalk??

I saw better content from your post than anywhere else I was trying to see what was at CES. THANKS!!

I'm curious about the electric bobcat and mini-excavator!

As far as I could tell, they are strictly prototype and not yet available for sale. The loader is supposed to run about four hours on a charge. Propulsion is electric and bucket control looked to be hydraulic.

Here's a few more pictures.....

This is one of the many restaurant automation robots at the show.

John Deere rolled out a AI controlled sprayer. Cameras watch the ground looking for any plant other than the crop and sprays it with herbicide. Saving 80% on chemical costs and much better for the environment.

I'm not a gambler so I usually stay downtown on Fremont street. The Hotels are a fraction of the cost of the rooms on the strip. This year I was at the Plaza Hotel Casino. Across the street is a new casino/hotel called the Circa. Inside is a sports betting area that was stunning.

The photos don't do it justice. This layout was huge.

Plus, there is a good burger joint just to the left of the screens. Life is good.

This just screams to my inner 'nerdism' side! Love it! THANK YOU for posting!

The pictures I posted of the electric assist bicycles and motorcycles are just a sample of the many that were there. The designs were all over the map. To me it looks like a young market that will sort itself out over time. I'm sure just a small percentage of the companies at the show will be alive in a couple years.
