I find it easier to keep control of the devices when they are added just locally per Android device. I also often add end customers devices temporarily when adding cameras or making other adjustments, it's lot easier just adding SN, user and pass than fiddle with accounts.
The installer will need to pay to use DoLynk as far as I can tell. Dahua tried getting us on all on board with DoLynk last year running a promotion that offered 256 devices in DoLynk for free. No one knows what happens after this number is reached. Assume it will be package based add ons through the platform itself. It was never about money, it was always about data collection. I will no longer install Dahua recorders or offer my customers the DMSS app. I will use their cameras but I'm changing my model to offering a VMS instead
I was able to do this today just fine without setting up an account. Not positive what I did, but on a new clients phone, when app was persisting on using a login, I just tapped the "+" button in the upper right hand corner to add the device as usual.
