A update to this, mine has turned itself back on recently so check yours, I think your right gwiminor48 windows update turns it back on.

Cheers guys auto defrag was on, that has been baffling me for a few months, for anyone else in the future... Click on the Start Menu Start typing Defrag and you'll see an option come up called Defragment and Optimize Drives. Select that. Make sure the drive you want to turn off defrag/optimize...
