Use DMSS app and use in account mode. Intercoms are recommended to be used in account mode by Dahua.

To fix this problem I have hit default on image settings multiple times and then apply. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not and I need to mess about with the settings maxing them out and enabling SSA etc until it sorts itself out. Once its fixed it doesn't seem to return.

Download the SADP tool from the Hikvision website. Make sure your pc is on the same network. If nothing appears then its probably dead. You can even hardwire yourself into the NVR and see if the SADP tool picks up anything.

ONVIF is like a compatibility protocol between different brands and the way it's implemented is different between manufactures, onvif versions and models of cameras. I would neve expect it to be as good as using the same brand NVR with the same brand cameras, functionality is always limited...
