    RJ45 Ethernet connection issues

Those poles are helpful! Note for anyone pulling cable or a fishtape/pole etc. -- run a pull-string in there so you have something to use next time you run a cable if you need to. If you use that pull-string, pull in a NEW string along with your new cable so it's always there.

    RJ45 Ethernet connection issues

For the low price of a stranded patch cable, and the annoyance factor in putting connectors on stranded cable (prior to the EZ-RJ), I find it's worthwhile to me to just buy the short patch cables pre-made from Monoprice. https://www.monoprice.com/category/pages/1 There's a few different...

Camera helps "crazy blonde woman with a pink jacket" find her kid's phone

Camera: IPC-HDW5231R-Z I left my house shortly after 6:00 p.m., and my daughter called "uh, hey dad, there's some blonde lady with a pink jacket at the door, do you know her?" "Nope, I don't. Don't answer it, just make sure the doors are locked." Figured it was sales or something. I get home...

Using "SmartPlay" in Dahua NVR to review tripwire events keeps freezing/locking up?

I don't know...I'm not sure if I'm even using it right. For example this car came down from the top corner. There was no change to the the color of the blue line as if it had triggered the tripwire, however it did draw a green box around the car as it was driving by? There is nothing...

Using "SmartPlay" in Dahua NVR to review tripwire events keeps freezing/locking up?

I have a Dahua NVR5416-4KS2, still trying to learn how everything works. Looking to get the hang of tripwires and the IVS stuff. My NVR is not internet-connected yet, only local. Web Version: 3.2.3.79524 Onvif Version: 2.4.1 System Version: 3.210.0003.0, Build Date: 2017-04-18 I'm sure my...

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

Oh man, OK. I don't know why I said digital, you clearly said 3M printed...long day, read too quickly.

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

That's good to know that they don't get blinded. I was imagining how a camera usually looks in the presence of bright lights...but still prefer them higher for the other reasons listed. Sounds so stupid on the digital plates. I searched for Pennsylvania. I see a pilot program kicked off in...

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

My thought process was for these reasons, feel free to let me know if I'm off-base anywhere: 1. Aesthetics is the biggest one — If I can make the cameras work just as well in a more aesthetically-pleasing spot vs. "in your face", I would prefer that. I'll still keep domes lower on the house at...

    RJ45 Ethernet connection issues

I think you've read enough posts on the tools and steps to terminate the cables. Sounds like you just need to try a different connector — don't give up that easily!

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

Not burying it, although some sunlight may hit it if I do this on another part of the house. Not opposed to getting outdoor cable with the UV rating. I don't have a good way to come out of the soffit...but I could run it UP the house, into the soffit, then drop it down out of the soffit where...

    RJ45 Ethernet connection issues

Been making ethernet cables a long time, this is how I do it as well. Rubbing them out flat between the fingers and giving them a little twist/wiggle to settle them in. When I cut the sheath, I'll typically rotate it so I have the oranges to the left, and browns to the right. Makes it easier to...

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

The Loryta PoE Extender Mini Passive 2 Port POE Switch is a cool device. Any negatives to be aware of with this? I assume it's going to need some sort of waterproofing. I don't mind running a pair of cables if that is easier. I've read some people will run the cameras in a pair, one for LPR and...

Solution to add a couple LPR cameras — here's my setup in question

Yeah, there are no street lights in the area. Everyone has a light pole in the front yard, hit-or-miss on who has them on or not, even though they are dusk-to-dawn. I thought of a possible way to mount it temporarily, and that is to sandwich a couple ladder rungs between a couple pieces of 2x4...

IPVM Releases Phone Version of Calculator

I too am in the "technical homeowner" category. A few years back I started playing with the free version of IPVM, which I learned about from this site. I had determined that playing with one camera was neat, but, wanting to geek out, save, add all the cameras, see overlap etc., decided to spring...
