As some of you know, I'm installing a Hikvision DVR (7608) for remote monitoring of a vacation home. Spent several days last week pulling cable, installing the cameras, erecting a 27' high aluminum pole for my "pole cam", building a secure, welded wire "box" about 22 ft off the floor in a...
UPDATE.... Colors matter! Embarrassed to say I had assumed as long as pairs were connected, and I had the same combination at both ends... well...I didn't need any stickin' T568B colors, since I'm just running this across my own hanger / barn. Well, apparently specs have a purpose! I had...
Hey Fenderman,
Thanks once again for your input. I'm using Platinum tools' EZ-RJ45 connectors, made for their tool. Not sure about the band cable (I'm not at home right now).
What brand / type of RJ45's are made for the solid cable? (i.e. have 3 prongs instead of 2).... At least in my...
OK....I know some of you guys who do this everyday are thinking... "Oh Geezzz".... And do really feel stupid since there is obviously something I'm missing here.
I'm trying to make up patch cables to run my DIY HIXvision 7608 DVR & /8 HIX IP cam system. I'm using Cat 6 23/4 solid cable...

I'm a newbie, setting up my first NVR for home use. I'd really appreciate someone with more knowledge helping me figure out the following issue:
VIEWING ON THE LAN WORKS: I've set up a 4 camera Hikvision 7608 NVR. I have the NVR assigned a static ip address on my local LAN and I can...
bp2008... I stand corrected. The local phone company will provide fiber optic to the house. Considering the location, I'm glad to have that! My understanding is I'll have up to 4Mbps download; 1Mbps upload speeds. I was referring to the 1Mbps upload... (bits not bites). Thanks for...
DaveP....thanks for input. I'm thinking maybe 3 cameras outside; 2 of those at 3mp to help ID any vehicles along the access road which is 100 to 130 ft away, depending on camera location. I can drop to 1.3 or 2.0 mp on the remaining cameras and come up w a less demanding BW requirement.
I'm a newbie and this is a great forum btw....
I have small place in a rural location about 400 miles from "home". I had an attempted break in last week in broad daylight; luckily my neighbor (about 1/4 away) just happened to notice a truck at my place and went to investigate. The 4 would...
