    2.5" HDD for surveillance use

https://www.amazon.com/WD-AV-25-TB-Hard-Drive/dp/B007PFQ23C I’ve only found one, and it’s old tech - and kinda pricey for its size.. If your space is limited, you might want to consider the WD external drives that people are “shucking” for the red drives inside.. just skip the “shucking” part..

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

Some pics of where HP left the mounting screws for extra drives.

    Buying hardware

I bought one of these for about $280 shipped last week.. it’ll support two 3.5” drives + the board has a slot for an m2 nvme /ssd drive for fast booting. I did have to buy a win10 license for mine, but that was an additional $1.24. HP Z240 SFF Workstation Intel Core i7-6700 @ 3.40GHz -32gb...

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

T There was no COA sticker on the side of the case & windows wouldn’t “self activate”.. there was some Mylar sticker residue on the side of the case where it looks like a COA might have been peeled off. That said, there were no signs of use at all on either the interior or the exterior of...

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

No love on the windows 10 activation, I had to go to eBay & buy a genuine license for $1.24. HP’s website shows one year & 1 month of warranty left on the system.. ;-)

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

Yeah, trying for the free win 10 is next- I got my nvme drive physically mounted (hp left a proprietary screw/bushing thingy in the case just for that) I also verified the rows of screws left in the case were for adding additional drives - both 2.5” and 3.5” - so it’s ready to run whatever...

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

Just got one in - pretty impressive at first glance, looking like it’ll support an nvme drive & a pair of 3.5” hard drives as well as having a 2.5” slot & a cd-drive slot that could be adapted for even one more 2.5” drive.. the seller did include the tool-free hard drive sleeve for the...

10 TB WD100EMAZ for surveillance storage

I’m experimenting with a tiny/micro form factor EliteDesk that doesn’t have room for a 3.5” drive anyway- my first drive purchased was a bare surveillance drive & a usb enclosure - even on clearance, the combination was over $100 for 5tb.. this seems cheaper & I like the idea of WD having to...

10 TB WD100EMAZ for surveillance storage

Has anyone tried using them as is, not shucked? If the interface is fast enough for blue iris & it’s likely to be a red drive anyway, why even bother shucking/ plugging it into a a nas? If it dies young, WD has to warranty it. Is there a bandwidth/processor limitation with multiple usb...

    HP Elitedesk SFF G4

The issue isn’t going to be recording speed of the nas - lots of people running blue iris and recording to both external drives & NAS. You don’t need thunderbolt or even usb 3.1 speeds for that. The (theoretical) issue is the “t” series processor they put in the micro/tiny form factor pc’s...

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

wasn't asking if the price was good - I'm pretty sure it's one of the least expensive available today. I'm not aware of any "off lease" systems coming with 4-10tb hard drives - even if they were, I'd want new - so including a hard drive that's just going to go into the trash adds no benefit...

Looks like hp z-240’s are coming off lease (i7-6700).. are they good?

Saw a bunch of these pop on eBay recently.. looks like they can hold 2 x 3.5” drives - can anyone confirm that two 3.5”s fit without using ductus-tapus? Also looking like there’s nvme support as well? Any caveats from experienced people here on this type of system? HP Z240 SFF...
