When you say you got it working using the specific Dahua profile, was your camera selectable from the drop down list even though it didn;t auto detect? I'd like to add my 4 cams (a 5442, some 3241 and a 2231) into synology, but can't find the best way to make use of all the features.

Is the 2231 still the recommended varifocal if my budget is more around that price? I wish I knew what focal length I needed for the spots I have but not sure how I'd work that out. The 5442 looks great, but over budget when i have to buy a few of them. I also see the 3241 as the other choice?

So as suggested I think I'll buy one IPC-T2431T-AS and use it to work out what FoV I need. Then hopefully the 3.6 will be enough, other wise will have to look around a bit more (these don't come in a 6mm?)
