    IPC-Color4M-TL

That's great! I currently have a couple IPC-T54IR-ZE (4MP 1/1.8" image sensor) cameras in my backyard, which is in total darkness at night. The IR on those cameras just don't cut it. They illuminate a circular area, and all around that it's dark. I need to see a wider area. Do you know if...

    IPC-Color4M-TL

When does the warm light come on with the IPC-Color4M-T? Is it on all night or only when it senses motion?

    Windows 11 Home or Pro?

That’s what I was thinking. The pc that I am leaning towards is the one with Windows Home. An upgrade from Microsoft is $99. What do you mean by purchasing a code? I see people selling codes very cheaply but I’m leery of them.

    Windows 11 Home or Pro?

I am trying to decide between two PCs to run Blue Iris and Home Assistant on. One has Windows 11 Home, the other has Windows 11 Pro. Is Home sufficient, or should I go with Pro? And why?

    Dell Optiplex for BI

That's good to know about your NVMe on a 7040. The Wikipedia Optiplex page is wrong then. It mentions M.2 drives, but doesn't specify NVMe.

    Dell Optiplex for BI

I'm looking for a Dell Optiplex to run BI/CodeProject.AI on. It will have an SSD for Windows and BI, with the video recorded onto a HDD. Because the video is going to the HDD, is there any advantage to getting an Optiplex that uses the NVMe protocol? Looking at it another way, if SATA is good...

    Disappointed with Amcrest NVR

Any opinions on using a laptop instead of a desktop/workstation to run BI? I would do this just to save space (no need for monitor/keyboard/mouse). Is that even possible if I want to use an SSD or NVMe for the OS and BI, and a HDD for the video?

    Disappointed with Amcrest NVR

Well that's good to know. I was concerned because the cost of a new PC, a POE switch, and BI will be a lot more than what I paid for the NVR itself. I wasn't sure how much processing power I needed. If an 8th gen i7 CPU and plenty of RAM will do it, I may go that route. Plus, maybe I will...

    Disappointed with Amcrest NVR

I tried Blue Iris on an old Windows PC and really liked it, but my PC isn’t powerful enough to run multiple cameras on it. Instead of spending money on both a new PC and a POE switch, I decided to buy a purpose-built NVR instead. I bought the Amcrest NV4116E-A2 NVR. It’s got 16 channels, 8 of...

    Which camera would you choose?

Are the Dahua cameras compatible with Amcrest NVRs, the way that Amcrest cameras are? I'm not totally clear on the relationship between Amcrest and Dahua.

    Which camera would you choose?

What is EmpireTecAndy's business model? Is he refurbishing cameras, rebranding them, and selling them at a discount?

    Which camera would you choose?

I was thinking similarly but I have to admit that it's too easy to get caught up in the "more pixels is better" trap. The 8MP would give a better image when digitally zoomed in, but when not zoomed, I doubt if I would notice the difference between 4MP and 8MP (I currently don't own a 4K monitor...

    Which camera would you choose?

Assuming all of the other specs on these two cameras are similar, which one would you prefer, and why? The camera will be used to cover a front yard, and be mounted about 8 feet up on the house. The street is approx. 55 feet from the house. There will be some lighting from outdoor lights by the...

Exposing Blue Iris to the Internet

Yes, I have seen that before, and it isolates the cameras from the Internet. But some people say they also isolate BI from the Internet. If that is done, is there a way to view videos remotely? And if so, is that any safer than just isolating the cameras and exposing BI (as shown in the...

Exposing Blue Iris to the Internet

I see many posts from people saying they do not expose BI to the Internet. Does that mean they are unable to view videos remotely, or is there some other way to access videos from the Internet? Integration with Home Assistant maybe? Some other way?
