Yet another post about router choice...

Personal (2 people, each with a laptop and iPhone) - no children BI PC possibly a guest That's all I can think of but I may be missing something. What about smart devices like a Honeywell thermostat?

I will need WiFi - unless the WiFi can be done with the gateway. But if a gateway is bridged through to the router then I'm assuming that the gateway cannot be used for WiFi? The home is small (mobile home) and I'm not doing any gaming. So, is an appropriate price for an Asus around $100 like...

So, you're saying that it would be easier for me if I got a separate router? The Asus RT86U is about $160 - is that an appropriate price range for a router with VPN capability for a basic BI PC setup?

Thank you - yes, that's what I'm thinking. And it's kind of why I'm wondering if buying a separate router (in addition to the gateway) might be a small advantage - it separates the two functions into two tangible boxes.

Holbs and SouthernYankee are suggesting a separate router and icpilot is suggesting to use the gateway I have. If I can save money, that's great. Given my difficulty understanding all this, if buying an inexpensive router (to use in addition to the Arris gateway) would make things at least a...

I am going to install a 2nd NIC - do I still need to set up a VPN if the cameras can't get out to the internet? And if the cameras can't get out to the internet, how is it I will be able to see them remotely?

I did read that but I didn't know whether in that context it meant what I had in mind. Thanks for the suggestion to call Frontier.

Thank you both for your detailed replies. Is it possible to log on to the modem's control panel remotely? I'm using Ooma VoIP through it.

Yet another post about router choice...

Here's yet another post about buying a router - but I'm highly tech-challenged and want to make sure I'm buying the right thing. I'm setting up BI on a dedicated PC. The ISP at my weekend home (mobile home) is Frontier. The ISP-supplied modem is an Arris NVG443B. It's my understanding that I...

Routing CAT6 cable with cell antenna and alarm zone runs...

I have my cellular antenna cable (LMR 600) in a one-inch buried conduit and I'm wondering if there's any reason to not run unshielded CAT6 PoE camera cable in the same conduit? Also, are there any issues with running CAT6 cable in the same conduit with the wires for door switches/sensors?

    Fishing brick

Hmm. I have a lot of experience with fishing wires and I'd try your first thought before trying the second one. If it was a hollow, empty wall, then OK, but full of insulation = difficult - unless you're really good. What is inside the building directly opposite where you want to penetrate the...

Choosing hardware for BI: is this PC okay?

I was under the impression that I don't need a GPU according to Choosing Hardware for Blue Iris - unless I additional display outputs or BI requires too much CPU time to draw live video to the screen.

Choosing hardware for BI: is this PC okay?

If I don't care about Win11 then is 6th generation sufficient? I realize Deepstack plays into this. How much deepstacking would be required for cameras that will be aimed at entrance doors, a driveway, and very little activity?

Choosing hardware for BI: is this PC okay?

I've read the Wiki multiple times and I will go back and read it again (probably multiple times) - I'm just slow comprehending this stuff. I do try to do my homework so 1) I don't create unnecessary threads/posts; 2) so I don't bother y'all any more than necessary and; 3) so I actually have a...

Choosing hardware for BI: is this PC okay?

Thank you, wittaj. For the purpose of deciding which machine to buy, does it make any difference that I'll be accessing it remotely and the internet connection at its location is slow?
