How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

The cable I bought came with the connectors already attached. If I need to do it, I think it would probably be easier to just put a new termination end on the possible bad cable. Is that feasible?

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Yes, I've tried almost all of the different ports on both switches. We have fiber optics for our Internet. Would that make any difference?

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

It's a no go with the extended mode turned off.

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Not sure. The camera is far away from the next closest one. Would be a challenge and take a bit of time to test out that theory. I did notice last night that the infrared lights were on. Not sure if they stayed on consistently though. The link light on the port for the one bad camera on the...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

I unplugged my third camera and only have the shared camera cable, Internet, router and NVR in the switch and it still won't recognize the second shared camera. But it will recognize one of the cameras plus the 3rd camera when I plug that one in with the other. Wondering now if it's a camera...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

I did try that, I plugged the Cat6 from all three cameras into the switch with the Internet and had that switch plugged into the NVR and it still didn't power the one camera. Maybe I had the cable from the POE switch to the LAN port on the NVR plugged into the wrong port on the switch? That...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

The NVR only has one LAN port and I have it connected to the Internet. Can I move it to a numbered port?

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Okay. So, can I not have one cable going to the nvr from another poe switch that contains two cameras? Do those have to be on separate switches?

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Hey all! Thanks to you all, I was able to run cables for my camera. I went ahead and bought three cameras and an NVR. Thinking that I can send the NVR back if I decide to go the Blue Iris route. But, I've run into a bit of a snag with one camera not being recognized and need further guidance...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Yes, I do have a pretty good idea of the construction of the ceiling. We had the frame of the house built by a contractor, but my family and I did all the interior finish work, including putting in insulation, sheet rocking, etc., the inside of the house. My dad wired it, but he hasn't done...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

I was following along perfectly until I got to the 3rd paragraph. Then, my brain started to freeze up and everything that I had read previously dissipated. You all have such a high level of knowledge on this subject! I can say that yes, I have coax in all of the rooms, including the basement.

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Yep, this makes sense. But, I'm not sure there's any space to get the pull rod through as the ceiling rafters run the opposite direction that I would need to pull the cables through. Basically I would be trying to push and pull in a perpendicular direction across the rafters. And the vault...

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Blue Iris sounds like a good option over a NVR. What would you say are any negatives to using BI instead of NVR? I will have to do a bit more research in the adapters. They might be the easier way to go for now.

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

Thanks for this. It pretty much confirms by original idea that POE cameras are the way to go.

How to install PoE camera with limited attic access?

I really like this idea. There is a city light/siren pole (I live on the edge of town) that sits on the outside edge of my property that I would love to use for this purpose. Save a bit on electrical wire and pvc pipe. Thinkin' that the city wouldn't be too happy with me if I did that though, lol.
