Hey folks,

So I was thinking about re-purposing a machine that gets little use at the moment.
  • i7-4650U CPU @ 1.70GHz, 2.30 Ghz
  • 8gb Ram
  • 500gb ssd
Do you think it could handle 8 starlight cameras? I am concerned that the CPU might be a little under-powered. The other possible issue is that the device has no native Ethernet port. I'd have to use an Ethernet to usb adapter.

Thanks in advance
John

@JohnnyM Yes, the mobile CPU above is underpowered. The Surface fan will probably stay on all the time and it will be loud. The other thing is SSD. If you write to it constantly, it's lifespan will shorten very quickly, and 500GB is not alot of storage for 8 cameras.

My suggestion is repurpose the Surface as a remote viewer.

Buy a refurbished Dell Optiplex i7 6th or higher generation from Dell Outlet store. Add a purple WD drive for storage.
