I have an issue with our RS-485 jack on the back of our DVR and I don't know why it's not working. I'm hoping somebody can give some feedback to help me resolve this issue.

I was under the assumption that the RS-485 port was defective on the DVR. Using my camera tester, I determined the cable and camera is fine as I'm able to turn and zoom with no issues.

When using my voltmeter, I was getting power spikes from the RS-485 jack on the DVR. That seemed to indicate that the RS-485 port was good, but I went ahead and assumed that maybe it was defective since the PTZ worked fine on my Tester, but not on the DVR.

After all that, I swapped the DVR with a different Everfocus DVR we had in storage but that didn't resolve the issue. Can't imagine 2 DVRs having bad ports and I'm confident all the settings between DVR and Camera are correct.

Would it have anything to do with the RS-485 port on the DVR also having a Ground slot? There's no ground wire on the camera itself for RS-485, but would it need to be grounded from the DVR side?

I'm used to only having a positive and negative, but this DVR has a positive, negative, and ground.

The DVR is an ECOR264 9x1

You use same settings like protocol, baudrate etc. on the DVR like on your tester? Did you try to twist the wires. I had many case where the documentation was wrong... Normally you can't measure RS485 with a voltmeter... RS485 normally don't need a ground.

Yes, the Tester and DVR have the exact same settings.

As for the cabling, they used Cat6 cable. For the Positive, they used Striped and Solid Green, and Negative is Striped and Solid Brown. I guess they did both pairs for redundancy?

Here's a photo that I took of my tester and the DVR's I/O Settings.

The Everfocus PTZ supports Pelco-D, Everfocus and Samsung. I set it to it's default Protocol of 'Auto', with a Baud Rate of 9600 and an ID Address of 2. Though I didn't take a photo of it in the DVR Camera Settings, Channel 6 which is the PTZ, the PTZ setting is enabled and the ID is set to 2 as well.

So I don't understand why it's not working. The only logical thing that makes sense is a bad RS-485 port, but I still find it hard to be 2 dvrs have bad ports.

I am having the same issue with my Everfocus system. Did you ever figure out what the issue was?
Sadly, no. I have not been able to resolve the issue. So basically I'm forced to use my camera tester to turn the camera. Saves me the trouble of having to climb up on the ladder to turn the camera, but still. Kind of ridiculous that this makes three Everfocus systems we have in our system that have had their PTZ controller fail (unless there's an underlying issue I haven't been able to identify).

OK I spent the last today off and on with tech support from Everfocus with no luck. They think it might be a bad rs-485 port and are sending me a new DVR. But seeing as you have had this issue with multiple units I am not as hopeful this will fix the issue.

Let me know your results please. Our systems are quite old now, at least 7 years old so I'm pretty certain a new unit is out of the question -- not that it really matters as we're slowly converting over to Hikvision IP systems.
