Hi - great forums - I've searched high and low and can't seem to find any info or if its possible to have your security camera pop up on a smart TV(Sony Bravia x900f) when there is motion.

That would be the most ideal situation - If it popped up in the picture in Picture window when there is motion

Next ideal would be being able to choose which camera (I'm currently looking at the Lorex 4k) I view on the TV

Next ideal would be static hdmi in from the DVR - I know this is possible but not the most ideal as I would like to maximize the automation as much as possible.

Has anyone done this?

Thanks very much all!

@Perryf I have looked into this as well. I have Sony TV myself (last year's model) and I know that I can control TV via some network API because my Harmony remote can do it.

PIP (picture in picture) is not available with my Sony TV so this is not an option.
Switching TV input to camera feed is possible but there are 2 issues with this:
#1: If my wife is in the middle of her show, she will be pissed that the TV input switched without her consent.
#2: I find that TV input switching is too slow and intrusion event has often times disappeared off screen

The current approach is to use a really cheap tablet or touch-screen Windows laptop and display UI3 in Chrome as the camera viewer. I also send audio alerts to this device so the family knows what's happening without having to look at the screen.

Related, I thought about turning on my Philips color light bulbs, i.e. red for 1 event type, blue for mailbox alert, etc...but that means I have to "educate" the family on my alert color light scheme. As such, I'm sticking with audio alerts because it requires no family training.

Excellent thanks for that!

Your current option is going to be my default but I have to believe this Smart TV tech is possible right???

I've heard of some folks using IFTTT and the various google / amazon home control automations.
I like the audio alerts idea

thanks!!!

@Perryf Here is the Sony TV API that I was referring to: Forums : Sony TV HTTP control

I haven't tested it out myself since I abandoned the TV input switching effort.

If you know how to issue an HTTP POST, then you would know what to do.

If you are using BI, doing HTTP POST is easy to configure via the BI alerts configuration screen.
