Use DSS express its a newer version of SmartPSS and has its own mobile app. I got it through a member on the forum though I think you can get it for free from Dahua.

-Are you actually using this software?
-It seems that it works with a client/server architecture so the client won't work without a server (DSS Express Video Management System Server – Dahua North America), am I wrong?

The DSS server is like PC-NVR you can run the client on the server.

Glad changing the port setting worked for you. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work for me. I have the behaviour with the HDD Manager tab not responding even after changing the port (tried 37778 and 37780).
While you cannot gather information about the hdd manager on the nvr tab, is your nvr recording?
I can answer this. I installed the newest version of smart-pss and changed the port to 37785 and it does record believe it or not. You cannot go into the hdd manager and do anything because that portion is not functional but it does indeed record.
For anyone who was looking for DSS EXPRESS, this is the folder directory from which you can download the server version. Actually, I just installed the package but services are not started so I cannot say something about the functionality of this software yet, hoping anyway it is better than SMARTPSS.

Please if someone can, store the installer somewhere in case dauha would remove it.

@mrday, thanks for posting the link. I have just installed DSS Express and it seems to work OK based on an hour of recording and a few minutes of testing. Initial impression is that it is more powerful (but also a bit more complex to setup) than SmartPSS.
I hope Dahua will continue to offer the free Express version. It looks like they are trying to sell a DSS applicance in some markets DSS - Dahua Wiki so not sure what their long term plan will be.

So I installed the server and I got a message from Windows that my PC needed to be rebooted in order to disable windows UAC. I checked my settings and UAC had been completely disabled during the install so I promptly re-enabled it. Not really the kind of program behavior I enjoy so I uninstalled the app. So just be careful if you decide to install this.

Anyone still using the PC-NVR software? I am having the issue where it refuses connections from any devices while I have 7 cameras connected. When I unplug a few it wakes back up ---

Anyone know if this one will keep the connection to the NVR?
I'll tried to add two different Dahua NVR's to DSS Express and in LiveView DSS Express says "Request Timeout", but in the GDMSS Plus they works at same time. Tried different users / logins - same error. But single IP cams works fine. I think, there is a restriction on addding NVRs to DSS Express or something else

I had the same "Failed to get.." errors with SmartPSS, ver. 2.02.0000009. Changing port, re-installing, re-allocating hard drive didn't work.
Installed SmartPSS, ver. 2.03.0000001 and errors went away, no port change needed, and able to record on Motion as I intended to. Must admit when I did playback, I found it sorta awkward to quickly pick the video clip I wanted for playback. I was able to see live view of NVR using gDMSS+,
