Hello all,

I have a ubiquity US-8-150W switch I run my security cameras to. The switch has 10 ports and 1-8 are PoE.
9 and 10 appear not to be. On port 1 I am using it to connect the switch to another switch connecting to the modem.
I want to add another camera and I am out of PoE ports. So my question is can I move my switch connection on port 1
to either 9 or 10 since the switch is not powered by PoE and still have communication between the two switches ?

I hope that question made sense.

Thanks,

Yes, obviously you’ll need to connect the two switches via the SFP port. You can use fibre or SFP -> RJ45 transceiver.

A DAC transceiver can’t be used on extended runs never mind you won’t find one that offers over 25 feet!

What you're referring to as ports 9 and 10 are SFP ports. You have to install a module in the port to use it. That could be a module that lets you connect fiber optic cables or in your case, simply a 1G Ethernet SFP module. This switch doesn't support faster speeds.

If you install an SFP module, yes you can move the cable.
