Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing a IPC-B680H-MZ to put facing an entrance gate that would be about 20 meters away.
Camera would be mounted at a height about 12 feet.

There would be no light on the gate at night.
The camera would be connected to a Hikvision NVR 9600.

Would this camera be suitable.

An 8MP camera with a small 1/2.8" sensor will perform VERY poorly in reduced lighting. You would have to supplement the camera's IP lighting at night with additional IR, especially if trying to see a gate at 60 meters. That sensor belongs on a 2MP camera.

Consider a 4MP camera with a larger 1/1.1" or 1/1.8" sensor.

Thanks for your reply. The gate is at 20 meters. Would that be still to far?

No, 20 should not be too far, as long as there's little rapid movement.

A cam with a small sensor slows its shutter down to let in more light when there's little available; that's when movement can blur the image.
A fast shutter can stop the blur but only if the sensor is large enough to produce a good image under the low light conditions.
