Hi- I have finally signed up here but I have been following this forum for 6 months or so. I purchased 7 cameras from Andy along with his AI NVR that has 8 channels. ( mix of 5442, 4k wide view camera for overview and a mini ptz) nothing is hooked up to the Internet.

Currently I have a spot for 1 more camera on the NVR which I PLAN to add later on. (Another 5442- camera 8)

I also just bought a doorbell camera which will make it camera 9. The doorbell camera I plan on just using a 256gb micro sd since the NVR only does 8 channels. ( black reolink wifi)

I can only do WiFi with the doorbell camera ( no access to run poe) and it seems the reolink doorbell WiFi is the way to go to get 24/7 recording. It’s a bummer I can’t use the existing chime though. I have seen people use relays to keep the chime but that’s on the v1 model and not the newer v2. I also like the fact that if the reolink loses WiFi that the camera will still record. I understand the app won’t work but it’s still recording.

I was also looking into the Lorex doorbell since I can use my existing mechanical chime but it appears that if WiFi goes down the 24/7 recording will stop where the reolink doesn’t do that.

I also noticed a new reolink BATTERY doorbell in which you can charge with a Cable or with the existing doorbell wires. This doorbell has the ability to support a mechanical chime. I called reolink and they said I can do 24/7 recording with it but they don’t recommend it since it’s a battery. I then asked about removing the battery as I plan on using the doorbell wires to turn on the doorbell camera but doesn’t appear we can remove the battery.

Can anyone help me with my scenario? Thanks.

I would stay very far away from Reolinks doorbell.
I just dismantled one and replaced with a Dahua VTO/VTH solution.

Unfortunately, they route any traffic through their servers, and when using Alexa for answering, its slow as hell (at least in europe has a 20-30 seconds lag).
Its ok-ish if you use the app, but with Alexa its simply terrible.
Their customer support even offered me a partial refund after acknowledging the issue; it now sits in my trash pile.
In short, do not give them any money ...

RIUS ,

You may have already read the Reolink doorbell thread that was begun in Oct. of 2022; if not the link is below.

I think you'll find a lot more people that are pleased with the Reolink doorbell than are not. Also, it seems to be about the only Reolink product that gets any love on this forum.

I've had 2 Wi-Fi units installed since June of 2023 and overall am very pleased. Each of them is connected to their own dedicated 5GHz wireless access point and stream 24/7 to my Blue Iris server.

It survived some pretty high temps for 2 summers now:

Not in all cases.

How much do you want for it?

What do you mean with 'Not in all cases'? Audio handling is not possible afaik ...

Either way, now happy with an older (but better) Dahua VTO.

About pricing, seriously, up to you, feel like you wanna offer a beer, a pizza, a fish dinner or even just a joke in pm... feel free.
If you want it, pm me and i'll send you the address to pick up the thing. I'm in Italy, so hopefully you're in EU

The doorbell's RTSP and RTMP streams, with audio, can pass directly to VLC, Blue Iris, etc. and other video players and VMS sytems via the LAN, no offsite servers rrquired.

That's great news.

I'm not and glad to be here in the U.S. of A., thank you.

That's correct, but you can't answer to the doorbell that way AFAIK
Now I understand what you mean by "they route any traffic through their servers," and "Audio handling is not possible afaik ..."
If you're saying that you cannot answer the doorbell and speak from an app on a smartphone or via Alexa without going through their servers then I concur.

From what i understand, you cannot answer the doorbell and speak from anywhere, without going through their servers ... be it an app, alexa, or a computer...
If it was possible from a computer, i'd try and automate it through home assistant, but alas, i did not find how...

That's my understanding as well.

I know enough to be dangerous, but my understanding is that the doorbell cams need a SIP server and that is why they have to communicate to the cloud/internet/etc.

Can one host their own SIP server and eliminate that? I haven't done enough research as nobody pushes my doorbell anyway LOL.

Same here.
Heck, no one pushes ANY of my buttons except maybe ignorant, saw-it-done-but-never-done-it-myself "experts" and lazy, whining, basement-dwelling keyboard warriors.
