I decided to try an experiment for Halloween.

I feel the results were skewed because the bowls weren't monitored and kids were able to take fistfuls of candy, but the rocks still had a pretty good showing at 16lbs, of the original 30lbs, handed out. I don't think it helped that a lot of parents didn't think the rocks were an option and were just there to hold down the table. I also noticed that others talked the kids out of choosing a rock.

Next year I will lose the fruit snack option and only give the choice between candy or a rock, but those are the reactions I was hoping to see.

I highly recommend not placing anything in one's front yard that can be picked up and easily thrown. Neighborhood terrorists can't resist using readily accessible stuff laying around to damage other people's property.
