You laugh, but my area has a big problem of anything resembling a card with a gift card never makes it to the person.
Almost every card-type mail we get has a very distinctive tear in a corner that looks like the perfect size for one of those cheap scope cameras to go in and look for if a gift card.

Maybe the postman was just taking a leak in the bottle back there. I've notice delivery drivers do that in the back of the truck and then throw it under their truck sometimes.
Every single card anybody in my area gets looks like this on one of the corners of the envelope. No doubt for little cheap scope to see if a gift card is in it.
Bastards! Yeah I guess my daughter in AZ has that issue as well. So we've been sending Venmo/Paypal/Amazon e-gift cards by text. etc.

I avoid mailing checks and gift cards as much as possible, but a tear like that could easily be from sorting equipment.
I tape mine down around the entire perimeter and I initial the tape. If somebody pulls it up you'll notice either from the tape tearing the envelope or the initials not lining up correctly. Overkill? Yep. But unfortunately I don't trust many people in the usps, etc...
I've had usps employees tell me straight up don't put anything of value in packages, cards, etc.. because they will be stolen. Great confidence.

True, but it is only our mail that is a card like envelope. No other mail gets that tear.
My neighbor graduated high school this May and he didn't receive any cards with gift cards in them.
Got 3 pieces of mail yesterday. Interesting that the only piece of mail with a gift card in it had the tear like a scope camera was put in it...the sender wrapped the card and taped it closed so a camera couldn't see it LOL.

Probably report federally. Avoid local offices, might wind up warning the guy or conspirators.
Yeah, there are news reports all over my area about it. A common theme seems to be one particular local office people go to or the mail processes through. One would think there would be cameras in the facility to identify this.
