Recognize and Identify camera location recommendations

Oh that is a different field of view (tighter) than was shown in the above LOL - I thought that was your camera view.

No, this is just a snap from my phone to show the general overall scene. The recognize camera will have a tighter field of view, similar to the LPR camera's view

So it's about 50 feet from the camera mount to the middle of the road. This camera will be used specifically for identifying purposes at night in color. There is a streetlight on the pole shown in the photo, so there should enough visible light to run color. The FOV will be similar to the LPR WEST camera (B52IR-Z12) shown above, which views this same area. Would you recommend another B52IR Z12 or a B54IR Z4E running in color at this location?

I would go with the Z4E in that location.

50 feet is within the sweet spot distance of the Z4E and the bigger sensor, even with more MP will perform much better at night.

The Z12E, while on an ideal MP/sensor ratio, does very well for plates at longer distances up to 200ish feet, but it can struggle with decent captures at distance without light of people.

Now the newer Z12E does better than the previous one, but at 50-60 feet most will go Z4E over the Z12E for people and vehicle recognition. For plates, the Z12E would be the choice.

Understood. Was just hoping to not have to paint a camera black. The two B52IR-Z12E cameras I have for LPR are factory black, mounted to a black pole and they blend into the background. I wish Empire Tech had more choices with color than just a few cameras. Ce la vee

The whole FOV area is under a streetlight, so I don't think light will be an issue.

I think you have an LPR now looking at that general area now?

If so, drop the shutter to like 1/120 tonight for a few hours and see what you capture from a vehicle and person walking by standpoint.

Maybe you have enough light for the Z12E to respond well, but I know most here struggle with the Z12E at night at distance other than for LPR.

I trust experience over numbers. I appreciate your help; I'm just being lazy. :sleepy:

Yeah, we have been there. Can't tell you how many times I did something being lazy, only to have to do it right 6 months later LOL.

But if you have an LPR there, it is a quick and simple adjustment to test it for a few hours.

I wish it was. The 5 series cameras do NOT play well with the current Lorex NVR web interface. I would have to physically disconnect the LPR camera and connect it directly to the laptop to make adjustments via the camera web interface. I have the Dahua NVR, but have not had the time to initialize and configure it yet
