Getting the hang of it

Hi,

I have a EmpireTech IPC-Color4K-T180 camera and the wide view is amazing - what a difference. I have a ton of false positives when using the Blue Iris motion settings. I played with deepstack for AI, played with codeproject and the direction i want to try now with AI is built in camera ai, ivs, etc. It seemed like from what i read most people feel that the built in camera ai these days does a pretty good job.

The area is a low traffic area but decent amounts of wildlife. I thought this rule would get a lot more 'alerts' - in the last 24 hours i have two - one me walking around outside, the other is at 4am and i think thats the daily reboot as i dont see any motion.

I have a few more of these i want to buy/install but would like to make sure it is usable beyond a wider picture.

So enabled an IVS rule, on the camera, turned off SMD, MD. The rule is pretty basic. I think its anything that comes EITHER into the yellow circle from outside OR leaves the yellow circle should trigger the rule making BI save that event as an alert. I think the sensitivity turned up high should make it trigger easily - though maybe i have that backwards?

In BI -
Video settings:
"Get ONVIF trigger events" is checked.

Trigger settings:
Motion sensor is unchecked,
ONVIF/Camera events is checked.

I think this camera can do some sort of virtual PTZ but maybe thats something i tackle after i figure this part out first.

Any advice or direction would be great.

Thanks,
Rich

A couple of issues.

This camera is geared around human and vehicle detection, so it will not trigger for wildlife even with the target trigger turned off. So that explains the lack of triggers from ONVIF.

Further, we have seen the 180 struggles outside of the middle third of the image for IVS triggering. It will be most reliable for IVS within the red area, or maybe a bit just beyond it:

Regarding the "Virtual PTZ" (ePTZ) that is a digital zoom gimmick like arlo has and since you are using BI, it is a useless feature in the camera that cannot be seen/used in BI and should be turned off in the camera to conserve camera processor power for the features of the camera you want to use. You can emulate this feature in BI by simply panning and scrolling the mouse to digital zoom.

Also I would draw my IVS rules "closer to the ground" if you will. There is a 3D effect with IVS rules that most overlook.
People can literally walk "underneath" your Intrusion lines.
Best way I describe it is to have lines (I prefer a combo of both Intrusion and Tripwire) that hit your target chest high and/or window/door high

So the T180 - the area beyond the center red is less/unreliable for IVS. Would Blue Iris built in motion detection or codeproject work better if looking for wildlife or is the T180 just not a good choice for that purpose entirely?

I was going to replace a camera for the area attached (playground) and wanted to do a T180 for the wide view which i really do like - i also love how at night it looks bright as day - can actually see clouds floating by at night which is cool (to me). The playground camera is an older amcrest so i am not sure if a IPC-Color4K-T might be a better choice but am torn as i really love the wider view.

I am glad to know the Eptz is only usable in the browser - which i never use- so i will turn that off - to bad its neat looking.

One other thing - i feel like i read if you have all three streams on (main, sub1, sub2) other features are disabled. Not sure if that is accurate.

Well if this is more people/cars - maybe i should not bother with the woods and stay closer to the building/pavement.

No downside to having the IVS rule for the woods even it it doesnt alert on critters.

If the SWAT team comes through the woods would be nice to know ;)

In most every case I personally would rather have two VF 5442 cameras than a single 180 cam. Allows me to dial in my scene and provide more options on where I want better ID
180s are great for wide Overview and sky watching, in addition to focused area cameras for ID but not as a substitute. Again IMHO

As bigredfish points out, the T180 makes a great overview camera. Most here do not use it for identify or any mission critical alerts.

BI motion with CPAI would certainly do better with critters than the camera will. But keep in mind that the critters will get small fast at any distance further away from the camera, and CPAI will struggle with that as well.

I would also keep the IVS rules out there in the woods - they will be more reliable in the day, less at night.
