Today Ubiquiti released the first three cameras in their new G6 lineup of cameras:
  • G6 Bullet, fixed horizontal FoV of 109.9°, 4K resolution, 1/1.8" sensor, all the latest and greatest AI features, $199
  • G6 Turret, fixed horizontal FoV of 109.9°, 4K resolution, 1/1.8" sensor, all the latest and greatest AI features, $199
  • G6 Instant, WiFi connectivity, fixed horizontal FoV of 109.9°, 4K resolution, 1/1.8" sensor, all the latest and greatest AI features, $179
Introduction video:

I'd say these are very competitively priced, but it's disappointing they don't offer other focal lengths. However, I'm sure they'll soon release the varifocal versions. I'm also curious to find out how the image quality stacks up to the Dahua 5842!

What do you all think of these new cameras?

main changes to G5 are: bumped 4K resolution (from 2K / 4Mpx), wider FOV (from 84 to 109.9), bigger sensor 1/1.8", stronger IR (from 8 to 30m) and more AI...

first review and comparison to different unifi models:

it looks like it isn't designed to work in color at night... simply better/sharper sensor for 4K.. not soo good IR (typical for Ubiquiti)..

Very good web platform and mobile app with lots of fantastic features..

Here another video from night with IR.. yes, it's YouTube compression.. and some YouTuber who is using default image settings on camera...

but video footage from night with IR for cars / people who moves don't look good..

people are blurred and ghosted (with IR in BW mode!)..

it looks like they used 1/1.8" sensor.. but it's not the best one.. especially that this is 4K (8mpx) not 4Mpx...

plus bad IR (low distance) and lack of advanced image settings..

ps. G6 is some progression in image quality to previous models... those are base model at G6 series at good price..

If they will be available in shops (big problem in unifi world) they will sell at truck loads :)

Especially due popularity and features of Unifi Protect platform... and fact they are NDAA and from American company at crazy good price points..

There's also this review but his street already has a LOT of ambient light so the footage looks good to me.

I think it looks pretty bad to be honest. Considering the amount of ambient light, look at 31:18. Someone is walking by and it is very difficult if not impossible to identify his face. It's also very difficult to see the face details of the reviewer if you look at 31:30, even though he's standing still. When he moves his head there's a ton of blur and noise.

After some latest changes in Dahua world, especially:
  • new DMSS with some very good changes in UI/UX copied from Unifi Protect app,
  • new Dahua cloud backend which works much faster/better that old P2P (used in new DMSS),
  • new firmwares for 6xx-XI NVRs with all latest AI functionality,
  • new much more advanced video & image processing with modern HDR / dynamic gamma scene remapping in WizColor cams copied from latest android mobile technology,

I gained a lot of confidence that it is worth staying in the Dahua world and not jumping at solutions from other companies like Unifi...

Longer thread about G6 cams on reddit.com - now 300 posts.
And only one post asking about night performance and color at night (in comparison to Reolink CX)..

zero posts about sensor or pixel size and light capture performance..

Everyone is happy from stronger IR diodes (upgraded from 8 to 30m) ;)

this is today audience for cctv cams ;)

And We Are Doomed ;)

Yeah, it’s a bummer. I’d be happy to pay a premium for Ubiquiti hardware if at least they would match picture quality of Dahua 5442 and 5842. Just because I would still really like to use UniFi Protect software, instead of Blue Iris or Dahua NVR.

Not sure what else to say - Ubiquiti's target audience for cameras are clearly for mainstream users; not for folks like us on this forum

A member of the Ubiquiti community told me that sensor size and camera body foam factor are not related to other; when clearly a bigger sized sensor requires a bigger foam factor. Take the fixed Color4K Turret that Andy sells here; big 1/1.2" sensor in a varifocal turret body foam factor; this won't fit the smaller sized fixed turret foam factor especially when you factor in other existing parameters like the LED lights.

Anyway, anyone here tried the G6 Turret? 1/1.8" 4K sensor and AI built in with LPR

I agree with @tuvow and @steve1225
There's a reason why @wittaj has zero comment regarding Ubiquiti cameras, LOL. Dahua still leads the market. If you like a fancy GUI and half-baked features of the product itself, and camera technology 1-2 generations behind, Ubiquiti cameras are for you. I only own a G5 Flex (hardwired), G5 Turret Ultra, and G5 PTZ as hardwired Ubiquiti cameras; rest are Dahua I removed my front Reolink Doorbell the other day and installed a G4 Doorbell Pro (as it works well with UniFi Protect and POE Door Chime). I am planning to keep using Dahua primarily. Its an unnecessary premium for Ubiquiti cameras. AI Port is not even baked fully yet.

Are you using the AI Port with your Dahua cameras? What is the experience like? I'm stuck with the Unifi Protect system, but trying to decide whether to buy Dahua + AI Port, or just go with the G6 cameras, albeit they aren't quite as good.

I've spent a week testing the AI Port extensively. While it works fairly well, the overall solution is still quite buggy. One downside is that it transcodes video streams, which reduces picture quality. So, if you're using Unifi Protect software, there’s not much benefit to using Dahua cameras. In that case, I’d recommend going with their G6 or AI cameras instead.
