Dahua WizColor COMING SOON!

I appreciate the education @steve1225 and roger all that ... but it seems puzzling that since there are Chinese dashcam manufacturers (and DJI!) getting "high-tech sensors", why haven't any of those vendors expanded into the camera business as it seems like a would not be technically difficult. But yea, various other "issues" to worry about as you imply above - shame that politics "gums" things up, but it is what it is.

I don't mean to drag out this thread. At the end of the day, we can only buy what the vendors are selling.

To cut the story short: both HIK/Dahua, due Chinese price points has strongly pressed the toes of several large corporations in the US (valued in billions of USD) that make large CCTVs for big money.. hence the whole campaign against both companies, for allegedly cooperating with the Chinese government in implementing projects to spy on Chinese citizens.

Of course everyone has forgotten that these are Chinese companies located in China and subject to that law and obligation. And based on that law, doing normal business with their own government. Just like American companies do projects for the US government or military (or different government agencies).

dash cam market is small and companies are small. there is no big US companies on that market.
Drone market is very different - there is DJI and nothing else for long distance.

There will be 5 WizColor varifocals released later.

It looks like they will REPLACE actual awful Full Color 5xx9 line with WizColor technology. It will have fixed (HXW5x49-ASE-PV-PRO) and varifocal (first for Full Color) (HXW5x49-Z(H)E-PV-PRO) lenses.. It should have the same AI models (AcuPick 2.0, Video Meta Data, animal support) as actual 5442-S3 cam (or even more)...

There are big two questions:

  • does they replace Color4k (5449) cam with 1/1.2” sensor with WiZColor model? Does it will have new Starvis 2 sensor (which see both IR and white light)?
  • does they replace 180 cams (5849-A180) with WizColor models?

Do you have any news here????

According to Andy, ZAS-Pro is expected to be available in June 2025 and will likely be impacted by US Tariffs.

I would take the 4mp 1/1.8" over the 8mp 1/1.8" turret anytime, any day - especially the Varifocal turret

Yep

My fear is that they skip over the 4MP and put all of there eggs in the 4K basket with an undersized sensor as they've been doing down the line.

They need to fix the noise associated with the latest 3449H-AS-PV-Pro instead of just adding to the noise by hyping the 4K version and making it even brighter and even noisier

Otherwise they're just turning out new junk

They will do all fixed WizColor lines in 4/6/8 mpx because image sensor they use in WizColor (and HIK ColorVu) are available in those resolutions

Those resolutions are described in internal Dahua WizColor presentations, which I have for some time

Do you think they’ll fix the noise?

Those sensors have different noise type that sensors used in 5x42/7x42 lines..
In theory there is new AI based (AI-ISP) 2D and 3D noise removing - but it don't works very well for now..

Big problem is that WizColor (AI-ISP) is using new video processing with modern HDR and modern sharpening tools - you see the difference between 3449-PRO and 5442..
Image from 3449 have much more details at the same resolution / lens type.. But also more noise..

I saw demos for new HIK ColorVu 2.0 cams (the same platform - sensor & SOC - used by HIK) and they have the same characteristics - more details on image but more noise..

I hope they will learn better AI noise reduction models.. Question is when? Or does they apply better AI noise reduction models to existing cams?

Big hopes for new 5x49 WIzColor models.. They should have more powerful SOC with more power inside..
Time will show..

5 SERIES have a plan for the dual illumination, but will be 1/1.8cmos, i think will have it at Q3 to release.
