I appreciate the education @steve1225 and roger all that ... but it seems puzzling that since there are Chinese dashcam manufacturers (and DJI!) getting "high-tech sensors", why haven't any of those vendors expanded into the camera business as it seems like a would not be technically difficult. But yea, various other "issues" to worry about as you imply above - shame that politics "gums" things up, but it is what it is.
I don't mean to drag out this thread. At the end of the day, we can only buy what the vendors are selling.
To cut the story short: both HIK/Dahua, due Chinese price points has strongly pressed the toes of several large corporations in the US (valued in billions of USD) that make large CCTVs for big money.. hence the whole campaign against both companies, for allegedly cooperating with the Chinese government in implementing projects to spy on Chinese citizens.
Of course everyone has forgotten that these are Chinese companies located in China and subject to that law and obligation. And based on that law, doing normal business with their own government. Just like American companies do projects for the US government or military (or different government agencies).
dash cam market is small and companies are small. there is no big US companies on that market.
Drone market is very different - there is DJI and nothing else for long distance.
