DMSS Events Issue w/ Unifi Camera VLAN

I recently installed an Empiretech AI NVR and (5) camera system. I have the NVR and cameras configured with static IP addresses on a separate Unifi Camera VLAN. This VLAN has no Internet access, but firewalls rules are configured to allow Trusted devices (phone and computer) to access the Camera VLAN. From my computer connected to my Trusted wifi, I can access the NVR via the browser interface and I can see all the cameras and event notifications. Also, I do not have P2P or port forwarding enabled in my router.

With my phone connected to my home wifi, I installed the most recent version of DMSS on my Android phone and added the NVR via direct IP Address. I configured Multi-channel Alarm Subscription for each camera in Device Details for the NVR. I can see each camera's Live View and Playback in DMSS; however, I don't see any events listed in the Events screen in the app even though there are events that I can see in the browser. Any insights?

You have push messages enabled n the NVR?

You may need to use the serial number method to add it to your DMSS.

Ultimately the message is sent from your NVR through push.messagepush.org which then knows how to find your phone (P2P by any other name)
This is how all of mine work

I dont see how it can make that trip if you are using the local LAN IP

Port 53 and 8888 outgoing need to unblocked in your firewall for iOS DMSS notifications, I believe the Android version may require something other than 8888 but I’m not finding it at the moment.

Thanks for the info. Am I correct that Push Notifications and the app Events screen are two separate functional components. I can see where Push Notifications require special configuration, but I would think that displaying the events list in DMSS would be a pull and not a push, no different than connecting to a camera live view or settings through DMSS. My phone is connected to my home network so it has access to the NVR.

yes I do receive push messages without P2P enabled on my NVR but I do so while adding the NVR to DMSS via serial number...
it does reach out to push.messagepush.org on port 8888

When home on my LAN, like you like today, I get push "alerts" on my home screen/lock screen (iPhone)
I can go back and tap those messages and login to the phone again and it will put that alert now in the list.

Without a Dahua account login, they wont stay there forever. I'm trying to see my old notes of when they get purged

I have 3 alerts in the Event tab.
I have dozens of notifications on my Home Screen
By opening one it appears in Events list and now I have 4

I’m still on an older version of DMSS but in order to see “message” - I assume the equivalent of “event” - I have to

1. either click on an alert that pops up on my phone, or

2. Have DMSS open when an event happens.

Again this is added via IP and not logged in with an email account

Mine appear to only stick around for 7 days

In addition to that which I think were on the same page with, there’s another issue with respect to “local vs account” devices.

Mine are all “local”

My NVR is a local device in DMSS. I just tried a test where I set off SMD on my PTZ and had DMSS open at the time. No Events appeared in DMSS Events tab. I also tried after I logged out in DMSS and still no Events.

Another note: I have a standalone PTZ at my other house and those Events show up in DMSS.

The PTZ is not blocked from the internet then. Notifications require some data to get out through your router in order to get to your phone. Blocking all incoming and outgoing connections like you have is smart but you’ll still have to create a rule that allows the NVR to get OUT on port 53, and 8888 for iOS for notifications. If 8888 doesn’t work something makes me think 443 is required for Android. I don’t know how you achieve that with UniFi, Tp-Link Omada calls it ACL (Access Control List), I believe my old Cisco router just called it access control.

My NVR is added via its private ip address on my S25U, and is on its own isolated VLAN, everything blocked but CIDR 35.82.242.0/24, on TCP 443 port (the firewall acts as DNS/NTP server for that VLAN), I can always get push notifies, if I connect via Wireguard (which acctually is always connected), I can see the event, opening the notify.
