The IPC-HFW5241E-Z12E is the right camera to buy, but as a fellow Mac owner, my advice is to get a PC with an NVIDIA graphics card, and load Ubuntu onto it to run the LPR client. The open source version of OpenALPR hasn't been updated in years; Rekor Scout is the officially supported client, which costs $8 per camera per month (well worth it, in my opinion). Scout can be run in Windows, Ubuntu, or Docker, but Ubuntu will give you the best (and most reliable) performance, in my opinion.

Your Mac will serve for general purpose video recording if you use SecuritySpy. It's pricier than Blue Iris, but is specifically designed for the Mac and has been rock-solid with my 20 cameras setup.
