You are not going to read plates with a 2.8mm camera - the view is too wide. The field of view for the camera has to be not much larger than the size of the car.
Do you have a DVR (analog connections) or an NVR (ethernet connections)
Yes BI is awesome and can knock out almost every unwanted alert, but so can a good camera with AI.
